Squawk Box is a monthly birdie care package of 4-6 bird treats, toys, and more delivered straight to your door. Because parrots, big and small, need a great amount of stimulation to thrive, Squawk Box will deliver a new selection of toys every month. Every crate is carefully curated to keep our feather friends happy and healthy!
The box is available in three sizes: Little Birdie (great for Lovebirds, Parrotlets, Cockatiels, Parakeets, Green Cheek Conure sized), Middle Birdie (great for Quakers, Conures, Senegals, Pionus, Timneh Greys, Caiques, some Mini Macaws & some small cockatoos), and Big Birdie (Macaws, Amazons, Cockatoos, Eclectus, and Congo African Grey sizes). The monthly subscription starts at $24.95 for the Little Birdie to $34.95 for the Big Birdie, with significant discounts for longer subscriptions. Knowing that parrots have a long life ahead of them, and that they will destroy everything around them, the longer subscription is definitely a must!
Also, for each Squawk Box ordered, a percentage goes to parrot rescues. Not only do you provide fun new treats to your own bird, but you help other parrots as well!
This review is for the Little Birdie. My assistant reviewer is Kiwi the lovebird aka I-want-to-chew-on-books-not-on-toys. She was in the mood for nest building, not playing with toys.
Everything is always so nicely wrapped up in tissue paper! I really enjoy the care they put into wrapping the toys! But being red tissue paper, Kiwi will not get close to this box (she hates the colour red.)
Happy Canada Day! (If you are in the US, the box would have wished you a Happy 4th of July!) There is no information on the content of the box, but you get a nice DIY Parrot Treat (Sweet Potato French Toast for Parrots that can be adapted for their Human as well), a Did You Know about the Palm Cockatoo and it’s ability to drum rhythmic beat, and the Rescue of the Month. For July, part of the money from the sale of each Squawk Box goes to RoseBerry Bird Rescue in Neenah, Wisconsin!
Everything comes nicely wrapped in paper. It’s a nice touch as it’s safe for your bird to play with, but Kiwi prefers making her own strips of paper with my books, and sometimes with my paper money (it was a $20) and other important papers.
Bird Preferred LLC-Stars N’ Stripes Simmer & Serve. A great mix of quinoa, oats, rice, pearl barley, millet, brown rice pasta, and spices, this is sure to please birds who like to share their food with their humans! (Please, don’t let your bird eat from your plate, unless they have first dibs!) Kiwi will usually try a bite or two, then will refuse to get within two feet of the bowl. It’s a tasty mix and very nutritious. The Human tried some and said it wasn’t bad, just that it needed some salt. Please, do not cook the pasta in salt water for the bird!
Polly’s Cinnamon Swirl Perch. Completely edible perch, this is great for a perch destroyer (Kiwi is one of them), to sharpen your beak, while getting some healthy minerals! The perch has a nice texture, perfect to get those feet some gripping exercises! No, it doesn’t smell like cinnamon (the Human is disappointed).
Straw Hat and Maple Leaf by Feathered Addictions. Celebrates your Canadian roots with this straw hat featuring the Canadian Maple Leaf! Preen the straw, wear the hat!
Parrot Pinata. Cute themed toy for the Birds who celebrate either the 4th of July or Canada Day! The straw makes a convenient curtain behind which you can hide during the fireworks!

But first, I must make paper strips out of the card that is not part of the toy! I’m so clever! (We figured a long time ago that those information cards were as much a part of a toy than the toy itself. Whatever works with these Bird Brains!)
July’s Squawk Box was an other great box. Kiwi has a new perch that she can destroy, new food to share with her humans, and two cute themed toys! It takes a while for Kiwi to accept new toys (sometimes up to three weeks), but this subscription box is great to get her excited about new toys that we would not have picked up ourselves! It’s so fun to get a new box full of toys without having to go to the store (that has a very limited selection)! I also noticed that this being Kiwi’s 8th box from Squawk Box, she hasn’t received the same toy or treat twice!
