Broderi Box is a monthly box from Nordic Needle filled with amazing fibers for needlework and embroidery. You’ll get a box full of special threads, mystery tool, accessory, and a little something extra. You’ll also get an access to a secret link to a special blog post that contains more information about that month’s box.
FYI – You can’t subscribe to this box (must purchase every month) and the window for the next month’s box may close before you even get your first box. I had figured that I’d wait to see the first box before continuing and missed out on the July box. Fortunately I was able to nab one off the waitlist. Just something to keep in mind!
This month’s box got its inspiration from August’s gemstone, Peridot. The link and password to the secret Broderi Box page is also indicated in the card.
The back of the card!
I was excited by my first look in – I love the vibrant green shade! This looks like a useful color.
The site includes a lengthy curator’s letter, part of which I screenshotted here. I actually think they’d probably sell more boxes if they at least put the item list for past boxes online but since they went to the extreme of password protecting everything, I’m only providing short excerpts.
The item list page is on the secret site. Complete item information is shown, along with links to each item. This is a really valuable resource!
You can create this cute project with the materials from the box!
Even better, you can make this one – I’m looking forward to trying out some new stitches with this project. I have yet to collect the fabric but I am all about this project!
The box also came with a members-only coupon for 30% off Halloween items!
Watercolours Budding Leaf ($4.10) Hand-dyed (hand painted!) 3 strand cotton. Lovely with great variegation from soft to mid-tones.
Rainbow Gallery Bravo Leafy Green ($3) This one goes from dark to a lighter mid tone and it totally reminds me of the fern embroidery my mom used to do.
Rainbow Gallery Entice Green Apple ($2.50) So much sparkle! I love braid for sparkle (which this is) because it’s so much easier to work with than blending filament.
Dinky-Dyes Silk Floss Peridot ($4.50)
DMC Light Effects Floss Neon Green ($2.45)
These are both BRIGHT! The Dinky is of course hand dyed silk, which I love! The latter I have found a bit difficult to work with but it’s a good blending thread if you can pair it with the right weight thread. It’s metallic and sparkly and gives a great sheen.
Kreinik Glow in the Dark Lime ($3.29) YAY! Glow in the dark braid! Braids are a bit thicker and stand out – which makes them perfect for GITD fluorescence! Nordic Needlework says:
There are six more colors that glow in the dark! Grapefruit (052F), Tangerine (051F), Lemon-Lime (054F), Watermelon (055F), Blueberry (056F) and Grape (057F). Each color is available as a blending filament, very fine #4 braid, fine #8 braid, Tapestry #12 braid, Medium #16 braid, Heavy #32 braid, 1/16” ribbon and 1/6” ribbon.
I did not know this and I’m going to #1 have to get more glow in the darks and #2 investigate the rest of these weights!
Mill Hill Christmas Green Seed Beeds ($1.50)
Wooden Needle Tube ($1.50) This is the perfect little accessory and I think the beading project is fantastic!
Prym Dritz Needle Pullers ($2.75) I can’t say that I need this – but I’m going to pass it to a friend that quilts (also good for needlepointers).
This is another great box and Nordic is beyond compare when it comes to curating the threads together and providing the detailed information you get in the member area. I also love the coupons, and need to spend last month’s code before it disappears! The glow in the dark thread got me in the mood to switch my project, I need to go back to my Halloween stitching ASAP and see what threads I can substitute with these new ones!
