Treats is a monthly snack subscription full of snacks from around the world. You can expect to receive eclectic and interesting snacks that you’ve never sampled before (unless, of course, you’ve lived in the featured country recently)! The Standard Pack offers 4-5 snacks, while the Premium box offers 8-10. It’s quick to enroll, and you’ll get your first box within a few days of when you subscribe.
This is a review of the premium pack – $25.95 per month.
The packaging is simple and elegant. Tissue paper keeps the contents a secret until you are ready to dive in.
DEAL: You can save 15% on your first month with coupon code HELLO15.
The box always includes a beautiful postcard welcoming us to this month’s Treats destination. Usually, it is a shot of one of the most iconic landmarks of the country. This month, it’s Monserrate, Bogota, Colombia!
The box is filled to the top with goodies! Everything comes in its original packaging, often solely in the language of the featured country – sometimes it’s just as much fun to see the unique package styling as it is to try the snacks! The box is always so full, that they don’t need to use any extra packing material.
The introduction card tells a little about the snack culture and points out some of the flavors or snack styles that are popular or unique to the destination.
Another card features facts about Colombia, plus a clue for next month’s box.
This month’s featured recipe is Arroz Con Camarones.
There is also a handy info card that gives the name and maker of each treat, as well as a short description of each. The blurbs give you a sense of what to expect, but you’ll have to check each treat’s label (and possibly hire a translator) for more detailed info on ingredients and nutrition. Even with the card, the only way to truly appreciate everything is to taste it!
Everything in the box. The composition of each Treats collection depends on the local snacking culture, but there is usually a good mix of sweet and savory and individual and family packs.
Yupi El Golpe ($1) The problem with other snacks is that you need to get several of them to sample different flavors and texture. Yupi El Golpe changes this because it is packed with wavy chips, bacon flavored snacks, and even their popular plantain chips in just one bag. You will never know what you get every time you dip your hand into it. It’s a great snack!
Achiras Del Huila ($3.75) Achiras Del Huila is a Colombian cheese snack that doesn’t really look much at first but it can be quite addicting once you start eating it. I admit, it got me hooked from the first bite.
La Nina Besitos De Quesito. This real cheese snack that has been baked and not fried is quite popular in Colombia. These are large cheese puffs that you won’t forget any time soon.
El Gran Kactus Veleno Ojitos. There are a few candies here that look interesting in their own way. The first one looks like its a fruit type of candy which is somewhat similar to guava. The other pair looks like that they are coated with oatmeal that adds to the texture of the snack.
Aldor S.A. Frunas. Frunas are fruit chews. I got one in strawberry and the other is in lemon.
Turon Super Coco ($1.28) Turron are all natural-flavored candies that are coated with coconut.
Ramo Chocoramo ($4) This chocolate pound cake is soft, moist, and filling. It easily satisfied my hunger and my sweet tooth too!
Jet Chocolate ($0.82) It is a solid bar of milk chocolate. It might be small, but still satisfying because of the creaminess of the chocolate.
Every Jet bar also includes a collectible picture card. The other side of the card includes more information about the photo. However, everything is written in Spanish.
Colombina Piazza Chocolate ($4.99) These wafer rolls are just perfect for snacking in between studies or work. The wafer is crispy and has a chocolate filling that bursts in your mouth with every bite.
Nestle Cocosette ($1.99) Nestle Cocosette is a coconut cream filled wafer bar. One pack contains two long wafer bars. It’s crunchy and the combination of flavors is exceptional.
Treats Box always does a great job in introducing us to a country through their most popular and iconic snacks. This month is all about Colombia, and the curation really seemed like they picked only the best snacks from the country. There were lots of chocolates and biscuits, as well as tropically flavored snacks that are hard to find in usual international snack stores. All in all, my family and I enjoyed this bunch and we’re excited about which country we’re visiting next through this snack subscription!
Have you tried Treats yet? What did you think of the box?
