Pastreez is a monthly subscription that sends delicious, French-style macarons to your door. The confections are handmade by French-trained chefs using American farm-grown ingredients. All of Pastreez macarons are gluten-free and dairy-free, too!
This subscription costs $19.50 a month, and you receive a dozen hand-crafted gourmet macarons in each shipment. The macarons are carefully wrapped within a decorative gift box.
The company founder, a chef and fan of French macarons, searched all of France for dairy-free macarons to share with his dairy-intolerant significant other. Finding absolutely none in the entire country, he set about making his own dairy-free version. He developed a recipe using jam in place of dairy, and Pastreez dairy-free macarons were born! The lack of dairy gives them a longer shelf life and makes refrigeration optional — they still recommend putting the macarons in the fridge for peak freshness and consuming within 2 weeks if refrigerated (or 1 month if frozen).
This months selection is the 12 Chocolate Macaron Set. This sells à la carte for $22, so the subscription offers a good price break. Each macaron gets its own little section within the protective sleeve — they even arranged the two varieties in a checkerboard pattern for our visual enjoyment.
The macarons held up extremely well in the shipping. They didn’t break or crumble at all — Good job, Pastreez!
They sure look yummy! They looked so good they can pass for a professional display even thought they came in the mail! The dozen includes 6 white chocolate classic round macarons and 6 heart-shaped chocolate red hearts.
When I placed them on the table, they didn’t crumble or fall apart which is a good sign. They smelled delicious, and I could tell that they use almond flour in the recipe, as it gives it that distinct, alluring fragrance. The colors are rich and just makes you want to eat them right off the bat.
I have to give these munchies some visual justice — they are adorable and would make a perfect gift or take along for a party.
White Chocolate Vanilla Macarons. These macarons capture the classic texture perfectly, with a slight crispness on the outer shell and a tender bite in the middle.
The filling is rich in vanilla, and it smells so wonderful! It is soft, but not mushy, and it blends seamlessly with the lovely texture of the cookie on either side. White chocolate is actually my favorite sweet flavor in the world so I was doubly delighted with this gem! The almond adds a lovely dimension to the flavor, giving it a luscious, perfumed quality.
Chocolate Red Heart Macarons. Obviously, these are perfect for Valentine’s Day or a gift for your sweetheart. They are really cute! The chocolate is both dark and mildly sweet, a good complement for the macaron that doesn’t clash with the cookie.
It is not too sweet but still manages to be rich in flavor. The hearts are adorable, and I love getting both these and the classic-shaped macarons in the same assortment.
I thought the quality of these macarons was exceptional, and they managed to replicate the perfect crisp/gooey balance of a traditional macaron without using dairy or gluten. They weren’t overly sweet, and the emphasis lay on the tender cookie instead of the filling. Beautifully crafted, these ship and keep very well.
A lot of love and care was put into this box and it shows! You can see the passion behind the box from the way it is packaged to the presentation and taste. I look forward to the next box of flavorful macarons from Pastreez.
