A Woobly Wonderland Advent Calendar

I’m in love with this advent calendar! I was late in finding Woobles so I ordered it after Christmas and am working my way through the activities. Hope y’all do something similar this coming holiday season!!

This was my first advent calendar, and I had SO much fun!!! After work, I’d open each drawer and had so much fun seeing each surprise. Each project was just small enough for me to complete before going to bed. It helped me forget my day at work, and gave me joy with each finished project. You really need to start a monthly subscription club! Your kits are addicting!! Please make a brand new one advent calendar for next year, with all new projects! Can’t get enough!

Oh , woobles. How I appreciate what you’ve taught me this year. How excited I was to follow a long with some fantastic patterns for Christmas to end my year! The thing is I think ultimately I was disappointed. I agree with other reviewers that the crochet hook being day 18? Was a MISTAKE. I was using a regular hook and then got annoyed and went ahead and opened the holiday themed one. Why would I want a holiday one half way through the month? Also, there were two full sized patterns, but I think if I had known one of them was just going to be a sack I would have not even gone through with this. I would have ordered an individual Christmas kit instead or two. The box is sturdy at least. I don’t think I would order again.

I was very excited when this advent calendar was advertised and immediately purchased it. I love surprises and waited patiently for December 1st to arrive. I did read the comments and reviews other people had written so I knew some of the complaints. It was a big purchase to make but when you add up all the accessories plus the full size wooble, and the extra stuff like hook and pins I felt the price was fair. The presentation of everything from the box, the little stickers on the packages and the stuffing bag was wonderful (my box arrived in great condition). I loved all the accessories; my favorites were the gingerbread house and stocking. The full size wooble wasn’t exactly the typical cute Woobles character, but it is a Christmas Wooble that will go great with the other Christmas characters I will make. The two areas of improvement would be to make sure there’s enough yarn for projects (I did run out of skin tone for the mini elf and for another project) and I think there should be some changes in the order of items. For sure the hook should be for day 1. It was an adorable hook that would have built the excitement of the advent calendar. I think the star and pins should have been following the doors after the tree. After I crocheted the tree it was a little plain (but I was so proud of how it turned out!). I was very happy with the new skills I learned and challenges I had while making everything in the calendar. I hope there will be another advent calendar next year with all new items. I would love a full size snowman! Maybe accessories could include a snowflake, candy cane, and poinsettia? Also some new holiday yarn?! I was also able to use my box to store everything to bring out for next year :)

I was unexpectedly gifted this advent calendar, as an experienced crocheter I never had any desire to pay $30 for one of the Woobles crochet kits, but I understood that they were helpful for beginners so I was curious for this advent calendar.

Cons: *warning spoilers*
1. It was disappointing to get just some fiber fill on Day 1, but I understand it was needed for the Day 2 tree.
2. It was very lame to split the tree, trunk, and star into 3 different days.
3. It was disappointing to get a crochet hook on Day 18 (after several crochet patterns) and the hook was just heavily Woobles branded, nothing fun
4. We got ornament hooks on Day 5, but it was never clear what those were supposed to be used for.
5. The stitch markers were just the red and green locking ones, nothing fancy there and was disappointing.
6. They gave a pack of random straight pins that had a Christmas sticker on them on Day 23, so not even useful for assembly during the advent period, but the pins bend so easily anyways it wouldn’t matter.
7. I ran out of one color of yarn on two different projects in two different days even though I was using the correct hook size and gauge.
8. A lump of coal was one of the patterns.. really.. how lame is a misshaped object.
9. The scale wasn’t consistent. The ‘tiny’ santa sack was several inches, the ‘tiny’ present was about an inch and the ‘tiny’ ornament was 1.5 inches.
10. The last day ended with 3 stickers that just have the Woobles brand in them.. I don’t want to stick these anywhere because it is just free advertising. Very sad last day gift.

Pros:
1. You could download the PDF pattern instead of watching the videos.
2. The advent box is very sturdy and will be useful for storage when I paint over all the Woobles logos.

Overall, I do not think this is worth nearly the cost, compared to other yarn lovers/crochet advent calendars with projects and tools that I’ve tried in the past. I will definitely be staying away from this company as they simply are price gouging new crocheters.
