The theme is The Speakeasy Box: Episode 2!

It’s been nearly two years since we last checked in and collaborated with our favorite, Spirited Award–winning podcast The Speakeasy—but before we get started, a quick word from our sponsors!

Tired of nights in need of an unknown oomph? Do you have a curated set of ingredients, such as syrups, bitters, and a diverse range of spirits at the ready? Introducing: cocktails. With a simple stir or shake, you can tap into history and a host of far-reaching flavor experiences. Grab ice and a glass, because you simply can’t fail when mixing up a great cocktail!

Now with that out of the way, we find our beloved broadcasters Sother Teague, Greg Benson, and Damon Boelte just where we left them. Whether interviewing bar and spirits industry luminaries, opining on their preferred versions of this or that, or providing authoritative views on the trends of the day, they’ve built a catalog of episodes that would dazzle any in-the-know drinks lover lucky enough to press play.

While our ears have certainly been overjoyed to follow the program on a weekly basis, we find our taste buds wanting more! With a bottle of rye whiskey in hand, we invite you to step into the studio for a multi-sensory listening session. As always, rye’s going to bring its bold and spicy best to a trio of cocktails, while their years behind the mic (and many more behind the bar) ensure that our hosts-with-the-mosts are turning the dials on creativity to the max.

The Speakeasy Box: Episode 2 will soon hit the airwaves, and the topic of the month is rye whiskey! Sign up today to fill your personal pod with drinks you’ll finish and immediately want to rewind and enjoy again over and over! Subscribe now through June 15th (while supplies last!) to get yours—it’s slated to ship the week of June 16th.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Hallelujah! Thanks to Damon Boelte we’ve got ourselves a bonafide classic take on a whiskey sour with some spices that’ll make it sing out loud from the height of summer to the holiday season! His Dusty Old Hymnal doesn’t reinvent the wheel for the citrusy, spirit-fortified sip; rather, it’s an effort that applies an extra head-turning layer of flavor all throughout. A hearty blend of rooibos tea and orange peel takes care of that with a satchel of cinnamon, licorice, and clove in tow, syncing with rye’s own spiced notes and bright lemon to celebrate a special moment, indeed: the one where these cocktails are served and savored! Damon is a co-owner of the award-winning Brooklyn cocktail bar Grand Army as well as the experiential specialist for the California Brandy House in Napa. He has been a major fixture in the NYC mixology community for almost two decades, has won multiple awards in broadcast journalism as the creator and host of The Speakeasy, and is a contributing cocktail and spirits writer for Bon AppétitCondé Nast TravelerWiredEater, and many others.

For many ’90s kids, berries didn’t mean fruits bursting with farm-freshness as much as eye-catching and near-electric-tasting flavor bombs that popped in TV ads and led us like lemmings to grocery shelves. Greg Benson is hip to these nostalgic nuances, and he’s set his refreshing WOW! of a whiskey sour on a buttery base of coconut oil fat-washed rye infused overnight. The Whoops! All Berries then reverses the retro by using fresh strawberries and raspberries, along with a touch of rice wine vinegar and sesame, to innovatively elevate all those “frooty” drinks, cereals, and snack sensations of yore. Have yourself a sip and a smile . . . just add cartoons! Greg is a Brooklyn-based writer, bartender, and educator. He has run bar programs in Washington, DC, NYC, and Glasgow, Scotland, and his work has appeared in The Knot, the Washington City Paper, and The Washington Post. He is the owner and operator of Quiote Imports, one of the only companies that imports high-quality, 100% pure agave from Mexico to the US.

Dusk has fallen on Sother Teague during his latest foraging foray. The dalliance with darkness that his Forest’s Edge rye old fashioned pulls off is the result of rich molasses mingling with wonder-of-the-woods shiitake mushrooms. Rye whiskey assertively navigates this deliciously earthy blend, adding spice and toasted nuttiness with an assist from almond-infused orange bitters and a spritz of flamed orange oil. If you see this treeline, then make a beeline. A moonless mélange of complexity awaits as your reward! Sother is the beverage director at New York’s Amor y Amargo and host of The Speakeasy on Heritage Radio Network. In 2018, he was honored with Wine Enthusiast’s Mixologist of the Year Award, and he has authored two books, I’m Just Here for the Drinks and Let’s Get Blitzen, and created Driftwood Bitters and Garden Party Bitters. Catch up on all the Sother favorites in the S&S catalog, including The Weekender, Ash and Elm, Dragon Tears, and Fruitcake Weather. While the show usually drops its latest installments on Fridays, this time you can fill your home with the sounds, aromas, and tastes of fantastic host-created cocktails for a whole month straight!

Each month you’ll get 3 unique recipes by top bartenders + everything you need to make 12 drinks (4 from each recipe) other than the liquor—syrups, bitters, mixers, garnishes & more. You’ll be exposed to new flavors & combos, and look at your liquor cabinet in a whole new way. Subscribe today & be your own bartender + the tastemaker in your circle!
