I received a card telling me all about the featured vendor, Unbound Glo, which is located in Wisconsin. Their scents are inspired by nostalgic moments and they offer two categories of scents: Road Trips and Vybes Oasis. The candles are hand poured and are made with soy wax and phthalate-free fragrances. The candles sent through Vellabox have a traditional wick but the brand sells wood-wick candles on their website. The card also listed the bonus item and had a link to a custom-made Spotify playlist.
Unbound Glo 1980 Orange Candle ($38) The 1980’s was one of my favorite decades, so I was totally stoked (extremely excited, for those not familiar with ’80’s lingo) to find a candle that not only had a retro year on it, it also reminded me of growing up in Southern California during that time period. Sunkist orange soda came out right about that time and the commercials had the Beach Boys song playing, with people having fun in the sun and water, so the description on the side of this candle describes it perfectly. It lists the scent notes as orange zest, chili pepper, charred wood, and vanilla and it smells sweet and citrusy, with a bit of burnt wood in there, a nod to a beach bonfire perhaps. I wish that the scent carried more while burning — I couldn’t smell it from a few feet away, and could only catch a hint of scent when standing next to the candle. If you prefer your candles to provide more atmosphere than a huge amount of fragrance, then this is the brand for you! The burn time for this size candle is around 80 hours.
Checkered Photo Holder ($12) Our bonus item for the month is a checkered photo holder, perfect for holding a Polaroid or other picture. I have a photo album filled with Polaroid pictures from the ’80’s and they still look amazing, crazy! The black and white checks remind me of another item from that time frame, classic Van’s sneakers. This holder is made of plastic and is sturdy enough to hold a picture or postcard, just place it in the slit!
The candle I received this month from Vellabox and unbound glo was like a time machine to the past! The scent was fruity and warm and reminded me of a day at the beach, it’s definitely giving good vibrations. It’s like, so awesome and rad and tubular and all of those other words that I, um used to use (I still totally use these words). I like my candles to have a slightly stronger scent while burning but maybe as it burns down more it’ll pick up, but if you have an aversion to strong scents then this brand might be the one for you. They also sell room and linen sprays and I bet they smell amazing too!
