The theme for the December Simply Earth Essential Oil Box was Diffuser and inside I found recipes and supplies to help me explore different ways to reap the benefits of aromatherapy. Some of the projects were an aromatherapy inhaler, a natural air freshener, and more. Simply Earth aims to help teach subscribers how to make their own beauty products and cleaning items. Simply Earth sends four essential oils each month, usually three single ingredient bottles and one blend. Here are the oils for November:
Frankincense Essential Oil ($19.99) Frankincense is said to help promote youthful skin and boosts immunity. It has a spicy, woody note and comes from a plant resin.
Ho Wood Essential Oil ($12.99) Ho Wood is supposed to smell “woody and floral” but I find it smells like something you might use to clean the floors (and that goes for the pine shown below too). It’s supposed to help one feel calm and centered and may help improve the appearance of blemishes.
Pine Essential Oil ($11.99) Pine of course smells like a tree from the forest and it is helpful in cleaning products. It also may help break up congestion when diffused.
Vanilla Woods Essential Oil ($14.99) Vanilla Woods is the blend of the month and it’s a mix of Peru balsam, benzoin, and vanilla oleoresin. It’s a thick, dark oil and smells like vanilla, which is a beautiful scent that tends to be uplifting. It also promotes calmness and centering, and I can’t help but feel cozy and comforted when I encounter this warm scent.

The extras I received this month to help complete the projects are the Earth and Wood Reed Diffuser ($4.99 for a set of two), a Felt Mitten Diffuser ($3.99), and an Aromatherapy Inhaler ($1).

I received a prescored sticker sheet so I can label my EO bottles and finished projects.

Every month we receive six recipe cards with instructions on how to complete each project. You can also check out Simply Earth’s YouTube page to see videos of the projects being made!

Some of the recipe cards have additional information on the back, like what’s coming next month or a bit about the current box.
Below are a few of the projects that I completed with this month’s essential oils and extras!

This month’s diffuser blend includes Vanilla Woods, which is a thicker oil and tends to settle at the bottom of a diffuser, so Simply Earth suggests making a master blend in a 5ml bottle (included in the Big Bonus Box subscribers receive when they sign up for this subscription). Ho wood and pine come out on top when diffusing this recipe.

Next I made the Cozy Mason Jar Air Freshener. I used the circular lid from the lid assembly to trace a circle on decorative cardstock and then cut it out (the lid that usually seals the jar is no longer needed after this point). I went with a sparkly blue paper for a festive winter feel. Then I mixed the essential oils in a bowl before adding baking soda, then I mixed again and poured it into the jar. Finally, I placed the metal band and blue paper over the top and popped some holes for the scent to come through.

It’s cute, but you can really only smell this if you’re sitting right next to it, it won’t scent a room or anything like that. I even poked bigger holes afterwards but it can only do so much.

Making the Centering Pinewood Roll-On was a piece of cake. I added the essential oils according to the recipe card into a roller bottle (from the Big Bonus Box), then topped it with fractionated coconut oil.

I placed the rollerball on top, made sure the label was on, and then rolled it on my wrists.

This next project took no time at all. I simply placed a few drops of pine oil on a felt mitten and then placed it on my Christmas tree.

Very appropriate for the season!

The last project that I made this month was the Christmas Cheer Aromatherapy Inhaler. I placed some drops of essential oils in a small bowl, then disassembled the inhaler and placed the cotton wick in the bowl, rolling it around in the oil. I’m not a fan of Ho wood and pine so I found and uplifting recipe thanks to Google and mixed up other oils, like peppermint and orange, instead.

Place the inhaler next to your nose and take a deep breath in. I love this little inhaler, what an easy way to take aromatherapy on the go!
The only project I didn’t complete for December was the Night Before Christmas Reed Diffuser, but that’s because I didn’t have a 15ml amber glass bottle, but I later discovered that the 5ml bottles from the Big Bonus Box will also work with the wooden cap included with the set.
Simply Earth sent out an amazing box full of aromatherapy diffusing projects for December! I think diffusers are a wonderful way to use oils, whether it’s diffusing them in a machine with water or dropping them onto a passive diffuser, it’s super easy. My favorite project for December was making the inhaler, it’s portable and my blend smells bright and uplifting, just what I need for some of those gloomy days of winter.
Below is the insert I found in my box, it looks like Simply Earth has released a DIY Reed Diffuser Kit!
