The August 2024 Vegancuts Beauty Box theme was Tropical Vibes and I received four products that included a citrusy lip balm, fruit punch nail polish, and more. Each month you can expect to receive vegan and cruelty-free products (and Vegancuts offers a snack box too)! See what I received in this month’s box below!

This Way Sunscreen for Your Glowing Face SPF35 ($28.37) I received both a small tube and a sample size pack of this sunscreen. I want to start by saying that I am alarmed that this doesn’t have the FDA drug facts info as required by law, so use at your own risk. I always start by applying a product that’s meant for the face onto the back of my hand. I knew right away that the product that came out of the tube (you know, the one that doesn’t have an expiration date) that one or more of the oils had turned rancid. One of the ingredients is sweet almond oil, which only has a shelf life of 6 to 12 months. I opened the sample size pack to compare and luckily that one was fine, it had a pleasant light mint scent thanks to some essential oils. Titanium oxide is the sunblock ingredient, although it’s not as effective as zinc oxide. The cream goes on pink and if you don’t rub it in enough it leaves some metallic shine, although I ended up with more of a glowy effect.

Batanaful Mini Batana Shampoo ($6.75) I have a sensitive scalp and use a fragrance-free shampoo, so I was sad to see that this had added parfum, boo. I went ahead and tried it anyways. It lathered really well and didn’t leave my hair greasy. The fragrance is very floral and nice, but since batana oil smells like coffee it either has very little batana oil or a whole lot of fragrance, probably a combo of both. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if they left out the fragrance and if the product actually did smell like coffee!

Bali Balm Bergamot & Grapefruit Balm ($9) Please note that the ingredients on my tube differ from those listed at the brand’s website. Bali Balm has all kinds of unique flavors on their website, and I was happy with bergamot and grapefruit! This lip balm has ingredients like castor, coconut, and wheat germ oils; shea butter; and essential oils for flavor/scent. It’s a little sweet. My balm had a grainy texture, which smooths out after a while, or you can rub it in until it gets smooth, but it’s from the shea butter separating, possibly because my box came in during the hottest week of the year in Austin and shea butter likes to do that. I noticed that when I just let it sit on my lips it eventually melted and I could smack my lips together and the grittiness went away.

Londontown Lakur in Guilty Pleasure $16 Oh my gosh I am in LOVE with this color! It’s a classic pinky red tropical punch and has a traditional finish (vs a shimmery or matte finish) that’s shiny. I rarely wear polish on my fingernails but I always wear it on my toes and next time I do my own pedicure, this is going to be the color I use, and it will probably be used biweekly until March 1st because like I said, it’s a classic!

I thought the Vegancuts August Beauty Box had a good assortment of products that touched on different self-care categories: hair care, lip care, skin care, and nail care. My favorite product was the Londontown Lakur in Guilty Pleasure, it’s such a fun, vibrant shade and I love it, plus I’ve tried their nail polishes before and I’ve always been happy with the results. I also liked the Batanaful shampoo but I live in fear that it’s going to give me a reaction on my scalp so maybe someone else will get more use out of it, but I have no problems with its performance and if I was still able to use scented products on my scalp then I can say that I really like the floral scent of the Batanaful shampoo. I also liked the Bali Balm, it felt great on my lips and feels glossier than waxy lip balms – I wouldn’t have a problem with them calling it a lip oil in this case. Sadly I had to throw away the This Way sunscreen, which I consider more of a shimmery moisturizer, because it was rancid, but I was happy that I got to try the sample pack because it confirmed my evaluation of the full-sized product because the sample smelled really nice, I love a minty scent.

I had a look at the items that are in the September box, and I must say I am looking forward to the next box!
