Atlas Crate Cards
The box comes with six adventure cards, each one offering a fun glimpse into Costa Rica. One card shows a map of the country and shares interesting facts like its continent, population, currency, and official language. These cards make it easy for kids to dive into learning about this vibrant country.
The adventure starts with Anya and Milo exploring Costa Rica, as shown in the colorful pages. They encounter illustrations of local plants, animals, and bright Faroles—traditional lanterns often painted with the colors of the Costa Rican flag. There are even simple instructions on the back of the card so kids can craft their own Farol! Another card highlights Costa Rican coffee, ancient art, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest—a must-see reserve.
Every crate also includes a taste of the country with a local recipe. This time, it’s Gallo Pinto, a delicious Costa Rican beans and rice dish. The recipe comes with a checklist of ingredients and easy-to-follow steps with illustrations, making it a fun cooking project for kids. It’s designed to serve 4-6 people, and my kids are really looking forward to trying it out. It’s perfect for a hearty breakfast!
Atlas Crate Projects
This month’s KiwiCo Atlas Crate projects include making a Scarlet Macaw and Carreta.
Activity #1: Scarlet Macaw. The first project in this month’s Atlas Crate is all about creating a vibrant Scarlet Macaw—a colorful bird that’s a true symbol of Costa Rica. The kit comes with everything needed: cardboard cutouts for the bird’s body, felt paper for the wings, and foam pieces to help secure it for hanging.
My kids dove right into this project, and it was a joy to watch them bring their macaws to life. The included pamphlet made the process smooth and easy with clear, step-by-step instructions and helpful illustrations. It’s great how the detailed guide makes crafting straightforward and fun, so even younger kids can join in without any hassle.
As they assembled the macaw, they learned some cool facts about this magnificent bird, which added an educational twist to the activity. The result was a stunning macaw adorned in red, blue, and yellow, with a string provided to let it hang proudly. It’s amazing to see how a simple craft like this can boost kids’ creativity and fine motor skills while they enjoy learning about wildlife.
Activity #2: Carreta. The second project lets kids build their own Carreta, a traditional Costa Rican cart featured in the collectible sticker. This craft comes with beautifully patterned wooden pieces and four vibrant markers in yellow, purple, orange, and blue, giving kids the freedom to design their cart just how they like. The kit also includes foam pieces and sticks to complete the assembly.
My kids were excited to start this project and had a blast decorating their Carreta. The included pamphlet, with its easy-to-follow instructions and helpful photographs, made the process a breeze. They enjoyed every step—from coloring the wooden pieces to putting the cart together. The pre-drilled holes in the wood made assembly smooth and straightforward, so they could focus on being creative. Watching them proudly roll their colorful Carreta around was a highlight! This activity not only sparked their creativity but also helped develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Atlas Crate is always packed with fun and discovery! This month, my kids delved into the vibrant culture of Costa Rica, exploring its traditions and natural beauty through engaging projects and informative cards.
