Kinder Beauty Box sent vegan products as always for May 2023 with a big emphasis on taking care of our hair and was themed Mane Magic. Recently Kinder Beauty made some changes and they now let you “build your box”! They send three items chosen for everyone by Kinder, then you will get to customize two other items from a short list. You are also able to purchase add-ons that ship with your monthly box. Kinder Beauty kindly sent all of the item choices for review so the picture shown above is what I would have chosen for myself!

Everyone gets these three items!

Nourish Mantra Advanced Hair Growth Serum ($65) This serum is supposed to reduce hair loss and possibly increase hair growth. I would think it would take months of diligent use for any benefits to be seen but it’s not supposed to have the side effects of traditional hair growth products like minoxidil. You are supposed to apply a dropper full of the non-oily but slightly sticky (at least until dry) serum onto the scalp twice a day (after a morning shower and then again before bed) and follow it with a gentle scalp massage. It has a slight warm spice scent that fades quickly.

100% Pure Watermelon Cucumber Water Locking Mist ($35) I was surprised at how much this costs, and also looked around for added fragrance because it smells like watermelon candy, yet scent wasn’t listed. It has watermelon and cucumber hydrosols, aloe, and hyaluronic acid and you just spray on the face (make sure to close your eyes, this is rather forceful) throughout the day. It’s supposed to hydrate skin, making it plump and juicy I guess, and provide anti-aging benefits. It also leaves behind a bit of a sticky residue.

Lavido Thera Intensive Foot Cream ($7) I can always use more foot care products! I like to apply a cream to my feet just before getting into bed at night but I’m sure I should do it more often than I currently do. This one is non-greasy and is made with glycerin, shea butter, avocado oil, and essential oils for scent. It’s a blend that includes tea tree, yarrow, lemon, spearmint, and grapefruit.

Choice 1: Here are the choices from category one:

Evio Lip Serum Hemp & Peppermint in Speak-up ($16) I love mint anything and this lip balm leaves a tingling minty sensation after applying. It has just a hint of color and is more like a lip oil than a lip balm, it wears off quickly. Some of the ingredients are castor oil, shea butter, aloe, and near the bottom of the list, hemp oil. It’s supposed to soothe lips, keep them moist, and of course provide a cool feeling. Make sure to roll the container around in your hands before applying because it seems to separate after sitting.

ellovi Rose Butter ($9.43) This multi-purpose butter is made of just a few natural ingredients and is supposed to be pure enough to eat. The brand has a list of 25 ways that this creamy balm can be used, such as a cuticle balm, face softener, makeup remover, lip balm, and hair conditioner. I used it under makeup but then I have dry skin and can take the richness, oilier types may want to use it in the winter. A little goes a long way and the scent was barely there and enjoyable, something I don’t usually say about rose-scented beauty products, although there are several other natural scents available at the brand’s website.

Choice 2: Here’s the items from category two:

Bemakai Tio – Biodegradable Detangling Brush ($7) This is a detangling brush that can be used on all hair types and even on wet hair (although I worried it was breaking my hair when I tried it just out of the shower). It’s plastic-free and will eventually decompose in a compost pile, after maybe five years or so. I think it makes for a nice massaging feeling on the scalp and prefer to use it before bed to stimulate my scalp.

Daily Concepts Daily Body Loofah ($6) There was a lady down the street from where I grew up and she grew loofahs and shared them with us. This is a natural product, it’s a type of gourd or squash, and when you get it wet it softens and expands. Then you can apply shower gel or soap and scrub over the body for a gentle exfoliation. Rinse it well and hang by the loop to dry and you can use it over and over, then toss it in the compost to let it biodegrade all the way.

Franklin & Whitman Hair Serum in Old City ($24.95) When my hair starts needing a trim the ends tend to get tangled so I reach for a drop of a natural oil and rub it around my palms, then apply it to the ends. This one worked well and has a simple ingredients list: argan, grape, and jojoba oil plus some essential oils (I smelled lavender). I was able to pump out one drop but if that doesn’t work, you can take out the applicator and the serum can literally be dropped into your hand. Sure enough, the tangles came out easily and I styled my hair as usual.

This month’s Kinder Beauty Box turned our attention to vegan hair care and most items were fairly natural too. My feet are newly pedicured so the cream will help me keep them feeling soft for the near future. I liked the hair growth serum, and so far it hasn’t irritated my scalp, which is super sensitive. Although I chose the lip serum since I love all things mint, I actually ended up loving the rose body butter, and I don’t often say that about things that smell like rose. The hair serum/oil/heat protectant was another winner, just a drop was needed to untangle all of my knots, but the loofah and detangling brush were good products too. The value for the box combo shown above was around $148 but your box may have a different value depending on which items you chose for yourself.
