Simply Earth March 2023 Essential Oil Box was themed Face Care! It included recipes and extras to make a toner, two cleansers, a mask, and more! I received four essential oils: one blend and three single oils. I also received witch hazel, a face wash powder, and kaolin (clay). Simply Earth aims to help teach subscribers how to make their own beauty products and cleaning items – read on for more info!

Beauty Within Essential Oil ($16.99) is our blend for the month. It is made up of rosemary, frankincense, lavender, and myrrh and is supposed to fight fine lines and dull skin. It smells strong and earthy, herbal and warm.

Coriander Essential Oil ($10.99) Coriander seeds can be planted and they grow into cilantro! Here we have an oil that smells nothing like cilantro but that does smell a bit like herbs, dirt, and a hint of something medicinal. It can be used to calm the nerves, soothe headaches, and aid digestion.

Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil ($7.99) This oil comes from a lemon-scented tree and the scent is strong and reminds me of bug spray. In fact, that is one way to use this oil, plus, it may boost immunity and relax muscles.

Tea Tree Essential Oil Blend ($7.99) Tea tree oil has a strong medicinal scent that I’m not a fan of, although I recognize that it is popular for a reason. It may help soothe the skin and scalp, clean the skin, fight acne breakouts, and more.

Witch Hazel ($1.99) Witch hazel is popular in toners for the skin or as a base for a room spray.

Rose Kaolin Clay ($1.99) Kaolin can help draw oil from the skin, which may be useful for those with acne.

Face Wash Powder This little pack of soap is used in a couple of recipes this month. It says not to inhale but I found that impossible, it went right up my nose as soon as I tried to use it so be aware and maybe wear a face mask when making the recipes.

The stickers are handy to place on bottles and containers. Plus, they’re already pre-scored!

There were six recipe cards this month and following the theme, most were for face care items.

Some of the recipes continue on the back of the card, and others have information on the subscription, oils, a sneak peek for next month, etc.

Below are a few of the projects I completed with this month’s recipe box and supplies!

We received a face wash powder and the recipes for the face cleanser and exfoliating face wash are similar so I just made the wash. The directions said to mix the tea tree oil and almond oil in a bowl, then to mix the face wash powder and clay in another bowl and then mix the two together. I wasn’t happy with the face wash powder itself, as it went up my nose and probably into my lungs.

The consistency was supposed to be sand-like and I think it was. I applied it to my wet face and there was a lot of foaming, not so much exfoliating but I guess it did provide a little bit of scrub. The smell of tea tree was strong and I don’t care for that, but otherwise it was fine.

I also used the recipe for the Spring Rain Diffuser Blend. I dropped the oils into my diffuser and added water then plugged it in. The lemon eucalyptus was overwhelming and even my husband asked if I’d been using furniture spray, as it smelled like lemon Pledge.

If you are looking to make face care items that lean towards being more natural than traditional drugstore finds, then this was a good box to help you on your journey! The recipes seemed like they were meant for those with oily, acne-prone, or combination skin types (my dry skin isn’t a fan of clay). As with most months (and most subscription boxes), not every recipe worked for me but I have friends and family who would love to try the scrub, wash, toner, and acne rollerball for themselves. I recently took some extra rollerballs, essential oils, and carrier oils to work and the other teachers loved making their own natural scents and many expressed interest in learning more about the oils. Thanks to Simply Earth I was able to direct them to the appropriate ratio of essential oils to carrier oil and nudged them towards oils that they might want to use for a desired outcome (like uplifting mint or relaxing lavender). Thanks Simply Earth!
