The January 2023 BOXYCHARM theme was So Fresh and So Clean. Only one item was skincare, the others were all makeup! I found an eyeshadow palette, toner (which could almost pass for perfume, hmm), and a red lip balm to help me gently enter the world of bolder lips. See all of my products below!

Keep in mind that BOXYCHARM sends many box combos so your box items and value may be different than mine. There are variations to the box – see them here.

Please note that BOXYCHARM recently announced the addition of a $1.99 handling fee to all subscriptions per monthly billing cycle, starting in October. All Annual Subscribers who renew will also see a $9.99 handling fee charge. You can read more about it here.

Each item came in its own box.

Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner ($37) I would like this brand a whole lot better if they didn’t use parfum, and this smells like something you might find at a beauty counter at the mall, in the fragrance section, it’s very floral and strong. It’s supposed to help the face feel rehydrated and refreshed with botanical extracts including ginseng, Sweet Betty flower, and Quillaja wood. There’s also glycerin. This can be applied after cleansing by spritzing onto a cotton pad and then wiping the face. The scent is too strong and long lasting for my comfort, it really reminds me of Beautiful by Estee Lauder.

F.A.R.A.H. Liquid Eyeliner in Black Velvet ($20 listed value) This item wasn’t in the brand’s online shop but Boxy says it’s a new launch. I am not a fan of liquid liner but I still tried it and compared to some of the others brands I’ve tried, this one worked pretty well. It stayed on without smearing, and it dried quickly without transferring to my crease or leaking into my waterline. My daughter was happy to take it off my hands but then she’s a pro at liquid liner. Swatched below.

Persona Cosmetics E-Balm in Manifest ($22) If you are like me and shy away from bold red lips for whatever reason (mine is that I have super small lips) then this may be the red for you! It’s more of a tinted balm AND it’s buildable so you can start out with a soft wash of color but add another swipe and bam you have some bold lips! This is a balm so it doesn’t dry down and feels comfortable on the lips. I was quite pleased with this product. Swatched below.

Love Craft Beauty Plasma Gloss in Quasar Goo ($18 listed value) This brand has some vibrant looks on their website but this product doesn’t seem to be in their online shop (the Boxy card says it’s a new launch). Boxy says it can be used on lips, eyes, or cheeks and I tried it on my cheeks and lips but not eyes. It’s a gloss and too sheer for highlighter but maybe too light for blush so my lips is where I wore it best. It’s a shimmery bronze shade and swatched below.

Swatched on top is the liner, then the Plasma Gloss, and that balm is on the bottom.

Wander Beauty 𝑆𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝐸𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑝𝑒 𝑃𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑒 ($42 listed value) This palette was ok, there were a lot of chunky glitters that I didn’t feel safe using but I found a look that worked for me. I didn’t see this on the brand’s site but Boxy says it’s an exclusive drop. There’s a lot of purple here, plus some brown tones and the lightest shimmer was fine enough for me to use on my lids. I just added different shades to the crease until I found a look that I was happy with. I think I like some other Wander Beauty products better than their eye palettes though.

Here’s the palette swatched, with the top row on the left and bottom row on the right.

My January BOXYCHARM assortment was makeup-heavy, some months it’s more skincare but I don’t mind having new makeup to add to my collection. The toner was a total miss for me — I could smell it on my arm for at least an hour afterwards, that’s some strong stuff. I used several of the shades from the eye palette rather than all of them but then again, I rarely use all of the colors in any given palette, and it’s always good to have choices. The liner was fine and my daughter will put it to good use, but that red lip balm was my favorite item, it’s just my speed, color-wise. My box had a value of around $139, but that’s based on listed values as I couldn’t find all of these on their websites or at places like Sephora or Ulta (except for Elemis and Persona).
