In detail:

Everyone will receive:

Cities of Salt by Abdelrahman Munif

Banned in Saudia Arabia, this is a blistering look at Arab and American hypocrisy following the discovery of oil in a poor oasis community. Cities of Salt is a petrofiction novel by Abdul Rahman Munif. It was first published in Lebanon in 1984 and was immediately recognized as a major work of Arab literature. It was translated into English by Peter Theroux.

Plus your choice of one of these books:

The Summer Book by Tove Jansson

In The Summer Book Tove Jansson distills the essence of the summer—its sunlight and storms—into twenty-two crystalline vignettes. This brief novel tells the story of Sophia, a six-year-old girl awakening to existence, and Sophia’s grandmother, nearing the end of hers, as they spend the summer on a tiny unspoiled island in the Gulf of Finland.

Happening by Annie Ernaux

In 1963, Annie Ernaux, 23 and unattached, realizes she is pregnant. Shame arises in her like a plague: Understanding that her pregnancy will mark her and her family as social failures, she knows she cannot keep that child. This is the story, written forty years later, of a trauma Ernaux never overcame.

Little Snow Landscape By Robert Walser

Little Snow Landscapes is the first collection of Walser’s stories in English that includes his very final stories or, as he called them prose pieces. The first story is from 1905 and the very last is Walser’s last, from 1933. This fact means Little Snow Landscapes forces us to re-examine what Walser’s life means, what it is his Ich-Buch tells us, and what his mysterious madness and his long silence might signify.
