I was super excited to try my very first box from IDYLHOUR! This is an exciting (or maybe relaxing is a better term) box that urges us to take an hour out for ourselves to indulge in self-care, but without the “self-improvement” element that is often in other boxes. Each month will include a candle and some tea plus a few cards to encourage rest or rejuvenation, and a couple of other aromatic products (always an essential oil rollerball plus 1-2 spa products). You can set aside one hour a month, week, or day, it’s up to you, as most of the items are good for multiple uses. Let’s see what was sent in the March box!

Hand Poured Soy Wax Candle in Sweet Epoch (Find similar candles here for $20) It looks like past candles are eventually added to the IDYLHOUR online shop, and I must say, the scent descriptions sound like my favorites, all cozy and warm. Sweet Epoch has notes of thyme, rosemary, peppercorn, oud, hinoki, and tobacco. It’s gender neutral and while the hot throw isn’t super far, I noticed it when I walked back into the room and stood nearby, and that’s pretty much exactly what I ask for in a candle scent (stronger candles give me a headache).

Aromatherapy Roller in Equanimity (Find similar item here for $22) Like the candle, a rollerball will be in each box and comes from IDYLHOUR (although this scent hasn’t been added yet to their online shop). The carrier oil is almond and Equanimity has frankincense, clary sage, lavender, and vetiver essential oils. It smells very earthy, the vetiver adds a smoky forest note to my nose. While the candle is scented with fragrance oil, this rollerball is scented with plant oils only, it doesn’t have a “perfume” note and therefore won’t last for a long time on the skin, but it sure smells good while it does.

Lauren’s All-Purpose Salve ($32) One of the best parts of the whole subscription box experience is learning about new-to-me businesses, and the spa goodies and teas in this subscription box will come from small businesses. This brand is new to me and I like it! The product we received is a salve that can be used on the hands, body, hair, or face. The organic ingredients list is short (only 9 all-natural ingredients) and includes shea butter, jojoba oil, and peppermint essential oil. The brand’s website lists 21 different uses so check it out and remember that products without preservatives have a shorter lifespan than the stuff at the grocery store. I will be reaching for this jar again and again. It smells so good and feels so smooth on my hands.

Process Tool Cards The cards are another item that will come standard in each box. There are three different types: BodyTalk, GoodWords, and ClearMind. The “How To” paper describes exactly when to use each card during your IDYLHOUR. This month’s cards have a journal (or thought) prompt, an exercise to perform, and card a mantra to repeat while applying the rollerball.

Vana Tisanes Inflame ($9) The tea for this month is actually a tisane, which means there’s no tea leaves and therefore no caffeine (and I believe each box will come with some sort of herbal tea). There were two huge compostable tea bags too. The ingredients in this herbal drink are anti-inflammatory and there is an ingredient related to aspirin that may help relieve mild pain. There is also licorice (be careful if you have high blood pressure), ginger, turmeric, and more. There is a reminder on the brand’s website to avoid this if you are pregnant, have bleeding disorders, and more so make sure to check it out with a doctor before consuming if you have any of the conditions listed. I used 1/2 tablespoon of tea to 8 ounces of boiling water and it was the perfect strength for my palate. I’m not a fan of licorice, it can leave a weird taste on my tongue, but I didn’t detect it while drinking this tea. I could taste ginger and some herbal flavors, but it didn’t taste like spaghetti seasoning or anything like that. It was warm and a bit spicy. I didn’t even need to add sugar, I could sip it just the way it was.

There was a pamphlet that described how to be still, which can be hard to do, I even move my feet while watching tv at night! I unfolded the pamphlet to find info on setting aside time for my IDYLHOUR, and there was even a sticky note so I could write it down and place it somewhere I would see it later. The inside of the pamphlet described a suggested order of use for that special time. Obviously you can do what you prefer but I liked having an idea of how and when to use each item. Once again, the items that were sent can be used multiple times so you can have multiple IDYLHOURs if you desire!

I was very pleased with my IDYLHOUR box! I liked how thoughtful it was, with a sticky note and a schedule to follow (yes, I need a schedule to relax). I appreciated the cards, which are short and sweet and to the point. I adored the scent of the candle, rollerball, and salve — I can tell aromatherapy is an important feature of this subscription! Tea is one of my most favorite drinks so a monthly box that sends that and a candle is an instant winner in my book. The IDYLHOUR in-house products were well made and the items sourced from other vendors were also amazing. Overall, I would love to see this subscription in my box every month, because it has stuff I might not find on my own but that I enjoy using and I will use everything in this box!
