Lavender Pure Essential Oil ($13.99) Lavender has a lovely relaxing scent, and I used to hate lavender-scented stuff until I discovered the real deal. Try diffusing before bed or use a drop in some carrier oil for a soothing massage oil.

Palmarosa Essential Oil ($13.99) This is supposed to have a rosy note but I can barely detect that and instead it smells like, well, I’m not sure but I’m not a fan. Instead of floral or grassy notes it smells rather pungent, like wet leaves that have started to rot.

Peru Balsam Essential Oil ($14.99) Ahhh, this smells much nicer, like warm and woody vanilla. It is supposed to be both uplifting and soothing.

Clear Skin Essential Oil Blend ($19.99) I don’t have oily or acne-prone skin so I’m not sure this is the best blend for me personally, but it might come in handy for my daughters. This blend is made up of tea tree, sandalwood, cedarwood, juniper berry, and lemon essential oils and I can really smell the tea tree most of all.

Body Wash Base ($1.62) and Vegetable Glycerin ($4.89) Both of the bottles are less than full and hold only 0.5 ounces of product — they sent bigger bottles so we can reuse them for future projects. Both of these will be used in this month’s beauty goodies.

Xanthan Gum This powder will help thicken some of our projects and keep them from separating.

As always we received prescored stickers to put on our bottles and projects. We also received 6 recipe cards. Some of the cards have a recipe continue on the back while others have info on the oils, what’s coming next month, and the charitable organization of the month, which is always related to human trafficking.

Below are some of the recipes that I made with this month’s oils and extras!

The first thing I do is diffuse the oils using the recipe card provided. This recipe called for 3 of my new oils and smelled earthy, and I could smell it when I walked into a different room, it seemed to carry well. The Peru Balsam probably won’t disperse all the way, and I added a picture of what it looks like while in my diffuser, however, it will spread out after a while.

Next, I made the Lavender Love Shower Gel. I mixed a couple of the provided ingredients in one bowl, mixed another ingredient and the oils in another bowl, and then mixed them together and added distilled water to create a shower gel. It’s probably best to store it in a PET-free plastic container but I had a jam jar nearby so in it went. It lathered up very well and smelled mostly of lavender. These homemade items don’t have a preservative so the shelf life is not long, maybe 6 weeks, which is why it looks like such a small amount of gel.

I still have a few more recipes to make but so far I am enjoying the shower gel and diffuser blend. It feels like Simply Earth is starting to send items that might help one start a cottage beauty business, and the Facebook group often shows items subscribers made in bulk for gifts. Personally, I’m not a fan of using oils, even when diluted, on my face, but I like the body gel and I don’t mind using oils in body scrubs and similar items. I also want to remind you that if you are pregnant or nursing, or have small children and pets in the home, please use oils with caution and seek out further help if needed from a doctor or other health care professional.

Simply Earth is a monthly subscription that sends high-quality essential oils along with recipes and ingredients to make natural beauty and home products! Each box comes with 4 essential oils, containers, extra ingredients to make the recipes, and 5 – 7 recipes on recipe cards. When you sign up (and every 6 months thereafter) you will receive a free Big Bonus Box full of extra containers and ingredients needed for the recipes, such as carrier oils and bottles. Simply Earth is $39 a month. They feel strongly about giving back and donate 13% of all profits to help end human trafficking.

Simply Earth’s essential oil subscription made the list in our 2021 readers’ choice best green & eco-friendly subscription list!
