My January 2022 Now in Books boxes have arrived! I couldn’t wait to dive into the new titles they sent. This month’s Young Adult Books & Music Box was themed THE HUNT, with a book that introduced me to siblings who went on a hunt for a new magic source. Meanwhile, the Fiction Books & Music box was all about HIDDEN SECRETS, with a novel featuring a psychologist and a killer! Both book picks were thrilling!

Books & Music: Fiction

A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham ($17.29) is about Chloe, a psychologist who had a dark past. When she was in her pre-teens, her father was arrested for the disappearance of six teenage girls in her small town in Louisana. The family was devastated, and Chloe still struggles with the repercussions to the present day.

The story was well-written, and I found myself completely engrossed in it. The characters were believable and complex, and I loved getting to know them better as the story progressed. Overall, it was full of suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved Chloe as a protagonist and was rooting for her the whole way through.

Since this is the Books & Music box, I also received a guide and a playlist that helped me get in the mood for reading. There’s also a recipe for Louisiana Crawfish Boil, and a fun word search puzzle.

Books & Music: Young Adult

Fantasy lovers will enjoy The Ivory Key by Akshaya Raman ($17.09). The story is about Vira, who is searching for The Ivory Key, a tool known to unlock a new source of magic. Since the land of Ashoka is running out of magic, Vira must find the Ivory Key together with her estranged siblings before it’s too late.

The world-building was well done, and I found myself immersed in the story right away. Vira, a brave and strong protagonist, is someone that I quickly related to. The other characters are also diverse and filled with depth, and I loved getting to know them better. This is a great book for anyone who loves fantasy stories with strong female protagonists. The plot was fast-paced and exciting as well.

Just like the Fiction box, this one has a booklet and a playlist accompanying the story. There is even a recipe for a No Grind Easy Dosa. I loved that the book was also signed by the author herself, which made it even more special.

I absolutely enjoyed both the books this month! If you love thrillers and fantasy novels, they might be up your alley too.
