A little fruity, a little green, a little bit of everything as we get ready for spring! With a new year comes a new model for the DAVIDsTEA quarterly subscription! From cutting out excess packaging to offering more variety, the DT team has spruced up their tea tasting club for its subscribers!

Gaba Guava. Guava, pineapple, and coconut are mixed with GABA, a type of green tea that is apparently good for boosting focus and brain function! I think this would be great to enjoy hot or cold while studying!

Pink Velvet Cake. Vanilla, white chocolate, and redberry mingle together in a decadently sweet tea from the Valentine’s collection. It smells VERY sweet out of the bag, but this smells like a classic dessert tea.

You can see the little bits of candied pineapple that are also in this blend!

Very Cherry. Ripe cherry and hibiscus are the addings to a new experimental tea blend from DT. I found the stevia to be very noticeable in this one, unfortunately, leaving an aftertaste. Maybe I messed up the brewing? Not sure. I think I’ll give it another try and maybe steep it for a little bit shorter of a time.

Reishi Relax. Never thought I’d ever try a tea with MUSHROOM in it! I hate mushrooms, but thankfully this tea doesn’t have a hint of shroom in it. Instead, it is a berry and red currant flavour with a bit of pineapple. I found this tea to be pretty refreshing, not too sweet, and not too tart. Supposedly reishi has relaxing properties but I didn’t notice anything unusual.

Blueberry Vanilla. This tea smells very similar to another blueberry-centric tea by DT that I’ve had in the past, I think it was called Blueberry Muffins? If my memory is right that was a black tea, but this is actually a caffeine-free herbal! It smells very sweet and I think it would be great iced.

Chocolate Rocket. The pink packaging marks this as a mate – a very strong tea with lots of caffeine in it! It has chocolate, raspberry, and almond for a well-rounded sweet tea to get your day going.

Here’s Blueberry Vanilla! Lots of dried blueberries and bits of pineapple.

Guangzhou Milk Oolong Tea. Oolong tea, or white tea, is very delicate and easy to burn if you’re not careful. This is a simple oolong with added milk flavouring. Reviews on the DT website were mixed, but I found this to be smooth with a slightly creamy flavour.

Monkey Business. Easily one of my favourites. With giant pieces of nut, banana chips, and a solid black tea it was a sweet and fruity treat. The banana flavour did taste a bit artificial but the warm nutty flavour was great.

You can see the giant bits of nuts and banana chips!

Oolong tea can be a bit fickle to prepare but this was delicious and smooth. It felt very calming. The leaves are tight but once you add hot water they unfurl and bloom to release all that delicious flavour.

The first shipment of the revamped Tea Tasting Club subscription sent me eight teas, a nice mixture from DT. I would have liked to see another black tea as those are my favourites, and I found it to be heavy on the herbals even though this isn’t the caffeine-free subscription! But I think the switch to bubble mailers and going digital for the magazine show that DT is trying to reduce their footprint and that’s great.

DT has switched from a bulky box to a fully compostable mailer. Seeing the signature teal in my mailbox made me so happy. The compostable mailer has the cutest little dancing tea leaf! Also, the tea tasting booklet is now digital. I always liked leafing (no pun intended!) through the magazine in the past but I understand why they’ve gone digital.

Here’s a quick look at the updated packaging:

David’s Tea Tasting Club is $35 per quarter, and includes exclusive teas, recipes, trivia, and more!
