Dollar Tea Club is a monthly subscription that sends loose-leaf teas in an amount that works for you. They have a few different plans to choose from and all of the teas are made without artificial flavors. The teas are ethically sourced through direct trade, which means better quality tea while knowing the farmers are paid reasonable wages and treated with respect.

Hate waiting in line just to get your name spelled wrong? We’re on a journey to make exploring new tea blends fun for everyone.. yes, even coffee drinkers.

Everything in my recyclable mailer! I am reviewing The Explorer plan, which is $1 for 3 samples of tea, which is enough for 6-8 cups. You can also add additional sample packs of tea, those also cost $1 each. Shipping is extra. They offer two other plans: The Sensei and The Sommelier. Both of those plans include filters, a strainer with your first order, and varying amounts of tea based on which plan you choose.

The teas come with a variety of caffeine levels, which is wonderful news if you prefer to have no caffeine yet still want a tasty tea in the evening. There is enough tea in each bag for 2-3 cups, or more if you like to re-steep. The idea is to discover new teas that you love at a minimum cost.

I received a card welcoming me to the club. It mentions that if I discover a tea I love, I can add a bigger pouch to my next order!

The back of the card shows some of the tea accessories you can also purchase at the online shop.

Hmm, I received a cool little booklet!

It’s a Tea Journal ($3.50)! It comes free in the first order, but you may need to enter the code SCRIBBLER when checking out.

It has space to jot down my monthly teas and space for tasting notes, so I can refer back to it when I need to purchase more of my favorites. There were 14 pages like those shown above.

The page on the left tells me the steeping time and water temperature to use with various tea types — it’s not one size fits all. For example, using boiling water and steeping for 5 minutes might be great for black tea, but it will make green tea bitter.

There were two stickers in the mailer too!

I received a HoneyStix (75 cents). You can add on a HoneyStix or order them in a larger amount. The straw is free of BPA and the honey is unpasteurized. Luckily mine was in a plastic bag because the honey stick got busted somewhere in transit but at least it didn’t leak onto any of my other items.

I also received a pack of Filter Bags.

Three were included but you can purchase a pack of 10 for $1.75. The drawstring makes it easy to close and keeps tea leaves and the like from getting in my cup.

Cherry Cheesecake ($1) I love fruity flavored black teas, it was one of the first types of flavored teas I ever tried while growing up. This one is supposed to taste like cheesecake with a cherry topping, but I’m going to say it’s a cherry berry flavor to me.

Ceylon black tea, cranberries, calendula, and flavoring are in here and I thought it was kind of strong for a flavored black tea but sugar and milk turned it into an afternoon dessert tea in a cup!

Brain-Aid One thing I want to mention before you drink this herbal tea is that it has mate, which contains caffeine, so be warned in case you thought this might be good before bed. I ended up drinking it in the afternoon.

There’s also rosehips, bilberry, tulsi, rosemary, orange pieces, and “natural flavors”. I would love to know what those flavors are, because they gave the tea a scent that was very pleasant and almost perfume-like, and kind of smelled like an evergreen tree, and I don’t think it’s just because of the rosemary. I didn’t add any sugar to this one, but it was flavorful and light and very unexpected.

Ruby Red Apple I love sipping herbal teas in the evening, they are calming and help me relax and get ready for bed. This one has apples, cranberries, and hibiscus but no spices.

Teas that have a lot of hibiscus are kind of one-dimensional to me. They almost always remind me of warm cranberry juice, and they even have a mouth-feel that is similar. I added a lot of sugar to counteract the sourness and enjoyed its fruitiness. I liked the suggestion I found on the Dollar Tea Club website — they suggest simmering it with red wine and spices to make a mulled wine and I am on board for that.

I loved trying three new-to-me teas from Dollar Tea Club! I appreciated the little notebook for keeping notes on the teas I receive, it makes it helpful when I want to reorder in the future. I also liked that there were a few tea bags to use with my new loose leaf tea blends. Speaking of blends, Cherry Cheesecake was my favorite, it was like drinking dessert in the middle of the afternoon! While Ruby Red Apple was just ok to me, I can at least reap the benefits of the vitamin C contained in some of the ingredients. Finally, Brain-Aid was such a unique tea and that’s exactly what I want to discover, interesting flavors that I won’t find in my local stores!
