First peek!

The information card tells me what’s in the box. A quick scan of the QR code brings up the digital content. They gave tips for healthy substitutions (mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes, for example) and there were recipes!

Inside the booklet, we have a list of all this month’s snacks. Only three out of seven snacks are doubles this month.

On the back of the booklet, we have our Fitness Challenge / 20 minute workout. There’s also a QR code to watch the live video demonstration of the workout (it was the same QR code as shown earlier).

Everything in the box!

Pop Zero Popcorn – Sea Salt ($0.18) I thought this popcorn was the right texture (wasn’t soggy) and the flavor was spot on, very buttery. The only ingredients are non-GMO corn, algae oil, and salt. Algae oil? I had no idea that was a thing!

The Ground Up Cauliflower Tortilla Chips ($0.93) The first ingredient in these non-tortilla chips is cassava, but maybe that doesn’t sound as healthy as cauliflower, which got top billing. There’s also chia seeds and a vegetable blend that includes spinach and broccoli. They are lightly salted and have an interesting flavor and I don’t think I would have called out cauliflower in a blindfolded taste test. Pretty tasty!

Foods Alive Onion Garlic Flax Crackers ($1.99) I recently bought a similar cracker at the store so I had something to compare this to quite by accident. Although I like that it is made of flaxseeds and not much else, the garlic flavor is much too strong for my palate. The crunch was good, the 7 grams of fiber was excellent, but I would like the flavor dialed back somewhat.

Herbaland Gummies Electrolyte Fitness Gummies ($3.00) I wasn’t sure at first that I would like these. Would they taste salty? Would they have an aftertaste due to stevia? The answer is no on both counts. This tastes like a pina colada candy and offers potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Plant Fusion Collagen Beauty Strawberry Lemonade ($4.78) These are vegan drink mixes that are supposed to promote healthy skin from the inside out. I noticed it has coffee berry and tea extracts, so maybe drink in the morning if caffeine keeps you awake at night (no caffeine amount is listed). It also has monk fruit so be aware that there may be an aftertaste (if you are sensitive to that kind of thing, which I am). Mix in a 10 ounce glass of water until dissolved and then sip. It tastes sweet but it doesn’t taste like strawberry or lemon.

Bakery On Main Dark Chocolate Granola Hmm, I’m sure I’ve tried this before but I don’t remember the granola being sticky and kind of soggy, I remember it being crunchy. I opened both packs and both were sticky and not appetizing. I would normally eat this as trail mix (as opposed to breakfast cereal), but this time around all I could taste was the salt so they ended up in the trash.

Buddha Bar Lemon Blueberry ($4.50) These are chewy protein bars with a hint of lemon and blueberry flavor plus some bits of nuts, and even some crispy bits. The flavor is alright, I’m not a fan of the monk fruit sweetener or stevia (it has both, great) or the weird aftertaste but that probably isn’t a problem for most people.

Not a bad month for FitSnack, but still there were hits and misses (and I am probably pickier than most due to taste aversions). I’m never going to be a fan of stevia, monk fruit, or any other sugar substitute, just like I have never been a fan of diet sodas, they all have a horrible aftertaste to my taste buds. Sometimes the reaction or aftertaste isn’t as strong, like in the drink mixes we received this month, or in the gummy electrolytes, those were very tasty. The Hungry Buddha bars are just too much for me. I loved the popcorn, but then simple and natural is almost always better for me. I also liked the cauliflower tortilla chips but the garlic was too strong on the flax chips and the cereal was soggy. Keep in mind that part of the value of this box is in the digital content so make sure to check out that workout (it’s almost 45 minutes long) as well as the tips, yoga, and other extras. (Update: the video goes dark at around 18 minutes or so.)
