DEALS:

First peek!

Here’s the card. The theme was FALL LUXE!

At the back, it lists all the products in the box, along with a brief description.

Everything came in their original boxes.

Everything in my September 2021 BoxyLuxe! You can see the full spoilers for the different variations of the September 2021 BoxyLuxe boxes here.

Once again, this is a BoxyLuxe review.

Adagio California Not So Mini Flat Iron ($99 listed value, $149 for similar item that is linked) BOXY shows this as being worth $99 but please note that I couldn’t find this exact iron anywhere except the BOXY site. I was really excited to try it out, I’ve never used this kind of item on my hair!

There was a warranty/safety card included. Sadly, there were no instructions.

Here’s the back of the box. The item I linked to has adjustable temperatures, this one doesn’t.

I have short, fine hair and so this size seemed fine for me, but after trying it, I guess I didn’t see any improvement or difference really. My daughter has coarser hair so I’m going to pass it along to her and see if she has any luck. I know some people (like my oldest) use thermal protectants first but I can’t use stuff like that on my hair, that may be why it didn’t do anything. It reminded me of when I used to use a crimper!

Grace & Stella Sleep Mask ($19) I have received masks like this one in past boxes. Eventually the gel inside the mask  evaporates and then it has to go in the trash but it’s nice when you first start using one.

You can either heat it in the microwave for a few seconds or stick in the freezer, depending on the benefit you wish to receive. Either hot or cold could help relieve a headache, while a cold mask may help reduce puffiness.

The soft plush side is the part that goes on the eyes and there is an adjustable velcro band to get the fit the way you want it.

The Nue Co. Defense Drops ($35) This is an herbal supplement and it is meant to be taken internally, just squeeze some drops under the tongue.

This supplement has adaptogenic herbs, which are supposed to support the immune system and help you adapt to whatever stress you may be experiencing. Please note the FDA disclaimer — a product can claim these benefits, but it’s mainly anecdotal and not based on scientific studies. The other ingredients, besides the herbs, are glycerin and water.

You are supposed to place 6-12 drops under the tongue or mix into a glass of water. I placed the drops under my tongue and I really hope it works, because I woke up with a scratchy throat this morning. It tastes like herbs, with a hint of black pepper, and while there was some bitterness it wasn’t overwhelming and the glycerin gives it a sweet flavor.

The Lyfestyle Bamboo Body Polish ($49) I was going to compare this body polish to the TV show Seinfeld, because it doesn’t actually do anything. The difference is that I actually like Seinfeld.

One thing to note is that these ingredients are different from the ingredients listed on the brand’s website. The BOXY insert, and the brand’s website, both discuss “bamboo stem extract”, but where is that ingredient mentioned on this container? Fragrance is listed twice on this tag, but not at all on the website. There’s some other differences but you get the idea. (BOXY’s website lists different ingredients, and they say to use it on the face, even though the container clearly says it’s a body polish.)

The product has a light coconut perfumed fragrance. I applied to my arm in the shower and although I could feel that it had some grit from the pumice, it didn’t actually do anything to my skin. It didn’t foam at all either, and it didn’t leave my skin feeling soft. I even poured it on a plastic body pouf, but that was even worse, the pouf wouldn’t even glide over my skin. $49 for this? I asked a question about this product on The Lyfestyle’s Instagram account and they never answered, in fact, they deleted my comment and didn’t even message me to tell me the answer. I sent a direct message and so far nothing. Hmm…

Saturday Skin Pretty Pop Probiotic Power Whipped Cream ($57) is a moisturizer that has encapsulated probiotics that burst as you rub it over the skin, which is supposed to be activated by the prebiotics already in the cream.

Here are the ingredients and this product has the “clean at Sephora” badge. Niacinamide is pretty high up and that’s supposed to be very helpful for skin, fighting wrinkles and fine lines. Alcohol comes immediately after that ingredient. Shea butter shows up, and so do essential oils, which give it a light citrus fragrance.

It is very creamy and a little gritty, just keep rubbing until those beads pop and dissolve. It left my skin soft but without feeling greasy afterwards.

Rare Beauty Blot & Glow Touch-Up Kit ($26) Rare Beauty is a new beauty brand from Selena Gomez (both of my daughters love her, starting way back when she was on Wizards of Waverly Place!).

The ingredients here are for the translucent powder, which is encased within the powder puff.

Inside the compact, which is supposed to mimic the size and feel of a cell phone, is a puff and blotting paper. You use the paper first to soak up face oil, then whack the puff on the back of your hand to “activate” the powder and pat it on as a touch up. You can refill the compact with a new puff ($15) and papers ($5).

Here is one of the blotting sheets. I bopped the powder puff onto my hand and ended up with silver glittery dust everywhere, it was all over my phone and I’m guessing it’s possible to inhale it too. I think that as long as I don’t have to keep hitting it then I can lightly touch it to my face but the blotting sheets are always helpful to have on hand.

Iconic London Triple Threat Mascara ($26) A full-sized mascara is helpful and this reminds me that I probably need to throw out some of my older mascaras and concentrate on using up this one.

This mascara is vegan and cruelty-free and the ingredients look like they are more natural than some brands out there.

This has a short wand, which makes it easy for me to get near the base of my lashes without poking my eye.

The formula did indeed lengthen my lashes but there were a few clumps too. I think a clean mascara brush will help with combing those out, but overall I was pretty happy with this, but probably wouldn’t pay that much on a future tube.

KAB Cosmetics Contour Palette in Shade Volume I ($60) I’ve never had much luck contouring but decided to see if KAB had a tutorial since I have no idea why there are light and dark shades. Nope, nothing on there so I watched a random person on YouTube instead.

Here’s the ingredients.

Only two of these are what I would consider contour, the two on the ends.

I watched the YouTuber go for the top right shade on her pale skin and it didn’t look too bad, so that’s the shade I ended up using. These aren’t really deeply pigmented and if you make a mistake it’s pretty easy to just buff it all off. One thing I didn’t understand was when the YouTuber said the palette smells like chocolate (like a well known brand) but this stuff not only doesn’t smell like chocolate, it kind of smells like chemicals, although it’s not super strong. I decided to play with the lighter colors and swept them under my eyes but that was a mistake, it ended up showing me just how baggy that area is and that I need never do that again.

Here’s that first row swatched. Again, I tried that bottom color and I didn’t think it was too bad on my pale skin.

Here’s the bottom row.

Wow, what a different kind of assortment from BOXYCHARM Luxe this season! There were lifestyle, health, skincare, and makeup products, not what I was expecting at all! I am going to keep reaching for the immunity-boosting drops frequently — I don’t know if they help or not, but I feel better since taking them this morning. I’m not sure the flatiron is best for my hair, I prefer curls to sleek strands but I’ll see if my daughter wants to give it a try. I wasn’t a fan of the body polish, and not really caring for that company after they ignored and deleted my questions. The face cream and powder/paper compact were both items that can be found at Sephora. I’m sticking the mask in the freezer, I’m sure to need it soon. The mascara worked well and the contour palette was alright, I was surprised that the dark color wasn’t too strong for my pale skin when I applied it. The value for my assortment was around $371 but keep in mind that some of these items were only found at BOXYCHARM, and some of them seem overpriced for what you get, but the two products that are found at Sephora add up to $83 and that’s well over the price of the subscription.

I just got mine today, what a disappointment. I got the same box as you, except for the flatiron. I got something else unmemorable. I’m going to cancel, and I have all three tiers.

I’m sorry it didn’t work for you Ingermaria. Thankfully there are so many other boxes to choose from! Are you keeping the other levels?

Thank you for your honest comments. Very interesting about The Lyfestyle Co. deleting your comment. Some companies desperately want to control the narrative, this will backfire on them at some point.

I know Beth, they could have just said oops it’s a misprint but this sets off warning bells in my head.

Man, Deb, thank you for shooting straight from the hip! There are definitely a few clunkers in there and I’m glad you called them out. KAB cosmetics is just plain ugh, nevermind the whole contouring thing. Thanks for taking one for the team. Always appreciate your reviews, Deb!

Thank you Snow, and at the very least I ended up with that immunity booster, I’ve been using it daily.

What kind of body scrub doesn’t include sugar and/or salt? Pumice was so far down on that list. What a bummer. That would have been my favorite product if it worked.

At least it smelled good Jody, I do like coconut.

Thank you Ami, and I’m sure there’s a box out there somewhere with your name on it!
