Allure’s beauty subscription box took home first place the in our 2021 readers’ choice list of best skincare subscription boxes!

First look!

There was a card telling me that the editors wanted to let me know how to get the most use out of the items in the box.

The back of the card discussed summer skin care tips using some of the products in the May box.

Next up was another card that reminds me that subscribers can get additional discounts.

Allure is a magazine so they produce a mini-magazine with all the featured items in the box.

The magazine lists each product, the MSRP of the full-sized product, and where you can find more. Plus, you can find some discount codes for a future purchase.

If you are a new member then your products may be slightly different, but continuous subscribers should not receive the same product twice.

The back had an ad for the bonus item.

Some of the products came in boxes or had additional packaging.

Everything in my box!

Purlisse Matcha Green Tea Antioxidant Sheet Mask ($6) Sheet masks are a fun but sometimes messy way to treat the skin to some extra moisture, which we might need now that the weather is heating up and the sun will start to take its toll.

This mask is supposed to relieve dryness, irritation, and redness from skin with the help of matcha green tea, which has antioxidants. Niacinamide fights redness while sodium hyaluronate attracts water like a magnet. Apply to a clean face and kick back for about 20 minutes. After removing the mask you can pat in the remaining essence and then move on to the rest of your beauty routine. Note: Some subscribers will receive an eye mask instead.

Wander Beauty Sight C-ER Vitamin C Concentrate ($42, full sized) is a 6-in-1 product that is supposed to stimulate collagen production, hydrate, plump, brighten, soothe, and provide glow.

Some of the star ingredients are vitamin C, squalane, 7 types of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and pearlescent particles. I had to press the pump around 20 times before any product dispensed. The creamy white lotion felt silky against my skin and the light diffusers gave me a glow. After the product dried it didn’t feel sticky or oily and there was no scent.

CosRx Propolis Light Ampoule ($28, full sized) How cute is this container? This product is made in Korea and has only 11 ingredients and is supposed to provide glowy skin without any stickiness. It should be used after cleansing and toning and is similar to a serum.

The propolis extract is touted as being antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and is supposed to reduce redness.

At first it looks thick like honey but is very light on the skin. There is no scent and once it’s rubbed in you can’t really tell it is there.

Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream ($37.10 value) Wow, what a pricey product! It’s a moisturizer that is supposed to change your life  relieve dry skin, fight fine lines and wrinkles, and firm the skin.

The first few ingredients are water, sunflower seed oil, squalane, and argan oil. Please note that these ingredients do not completely match the ones listed for the product we have linked to, or to the product listed on the brand’s website or Sephora. The brand says it is vegan, so this must be an older formula since it has beeswax and lanolin, and there’s about 10 less ingredients now and it could have some other changes, I don’t really want to cross reference 46 ingredients. It is rich, left my skin glossy, and after about 10 minutes I couldn’t tell it was there, it didn’t stay slick. There was no scent and my skin didn’t feel irritable but I still wish they had sent a sample that is identical to the one that they are currently selling, since the idea is to try before I buy and I want to try the real stuff, not some older formula.

belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb ($9.71) I love eye creams, although I would prefer that they be fragrance-free.

This is not a greasy cream, it glides on nicely and then after a few moments it feels similar to other dimethicone-primer types of products. Squalane, cica, calendula, and other plant extracts are supposed to smooth fine lines, increase firmness, help makeup go on smoothly, and provide bursts of moisture for up to 26 hours. It has an herbal floral scent that from what I can tell is provided courtesy of essential oils but luckily that fades quickly.

Joséphine Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Tiphaine ($30, full sized) is a bold long-wear lipstick with a matte finish and yet doesn’t feel dry and tight on lips.

According to the brand, the shade Tiphaine is “a bold and bright darling red, with hints of blue undertones, that works for EVERY skin tone” and I agree, it is a blue-based red and I also agree with all of the rest, it gives full coverage and lasts for quite a while without feeling odd.

Here it is swatched. I applied it full strength and it is a bold red, but I can’t pull off that look, my lips are small and then it looks like I have pinched lips. I used a lip balm to break it down and then wiped until I had a wearable wash of color. The next time, I used much less product and it was still pretty bold but I didn’t look like I was angry at the world.

BONUS: Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Face Liquid Sunscreen SPF 50 ($2.39) I love sunscreen and this turned out to be a really good one. It is water proof so it can be worn to the pool or beach but I used it under makeup and was worried that it would be too pasty but nope, it disappeared. The active ingredient is zinc oxide so this doesn’t smell like other sunscreens, and in fact there’s not much scent at all. I thought it worked well and would buy it again!

Allure really wants us to up our skincare game because 4 out of 6 items plus the bonus were all for the face, and then there was an eye cream and lipstick. I liked the AB rich face cream — I wished it was the current formula but otherwise it felt good on my skin. The ampoule and vitamin C were good additions to my skincare routine. I liked the eye cream and I would have preferred the eye mask over the face mask but there was no choice in the matter. Send me all the sunscreens, I’ll take it any time of year, I use sunscreen daily (already had a suspicious spot removed, so please use it too!). As for the lipstick, it was a great formula and the color payoff was awesome, yet I was still able to turn it into an every day kind of product with a lighter hand and a lipstick brush. The value for my May box was around $155.20!
