More than five years in the making, Bambi tells the coming-of-age story of a young fawn who grows up to become the Great Prince of the Forest. In addition to studying filmed footage of deer in the wild, Disney animators studied the movements and anatomy of two live deer, named Bambi and Faline, that lived in a pen at Disney’s Hyperion Studios. The art style of the backgrounds of the film suggested the mood, seasons, and atmosphere of the forest as a contrast to the realism of the animal character designs.
