Brightland offers extra virgin olive oils and vinegars, consciously made in California. For the oils, they use olives from a family-run California farm and for the vinegars, they use fruits grown on a family-run farm in California’s Central Coast using Chardonnay and Zinfandel grapes, Navel and Valencia oranges, and ripe Triple Crown blackberries. None of their products contain artificial preservatives or fillers. All olive oil bottles are UV protected and have the harvest date on the label.

What’s the polyphenol thing about and why is this olive oil peppery?

That sharp, peppery sensation at the back of your throat is one of the best indications of Brightland’s commitment to quality, and the  high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory value in its oils. Additionally, the polyphenols in olive oil that contribute to a sharp taste and resistance to oxidation. These polyphenols are strong antioxidants and have been shown to provide a host of beneficial effects from healing sunburn to lowering cholesterol, blood pressure, and risk of coronary disease. Additionally, oleocanthal, a natural polyphenolic anti-inflammatory agent uniquely found in extra virgin olive oil, functions much the same way that ibuprofen, an over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) does. This receptor is spatially located at the back of the throat, which is exactly where the distinctive sting from high quality olive oil is felt. This unique sensation and the accompanying cough or clearing of the throat are regarded among connoisseurs as indicators of high quality olive oil.

Brightland Arise Basil Olive Oil Review – Limited Edition Oil

Below is the review of ARISE ($40), a full-sized single-order bottle. Unfortunately, it’s not available in a subscription, as it’s a limited edition. The item comes in a sturdy blue box. The item is tucked inside a custom carton packaging. It’s well packed and would make a lovely gift! The card includes information about the featured product. At the back is a recipe for Peter Som’s Roasted Asparagus Toast! Everything in my box! I’m so excited to try this out! Arise ($40) This basil olive oil easily elevates salads, bread, and even pasta with its basil underpinnings. It’s made with heirloom Frantoio olives, processed in an organic mill. It’s also plant-based, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free!

ARISE is a 100% Basil Olive Oil from Brightland, made for lush and verdant feasts, lovingly blended with basil and heirloom Frantoio olives and is harvested early by a master miller onsite in a certified organic mill.Tasting Notes: Smooth, herbaceous, warm and peppery, with hints of clove and undertones of mint and anise.

This olive oil is made in the USA! It’s from California, in the Central Coast and Valley. I love the minimalist appeal of the bottle design, plus the light colors that are very appealing to the eyes. I actually wouldn’t think this is an olive oil container if not for the label! According to the bottle, this is a limited edition label made by Peter Som for Brightland. That’s so cool! Another thing to love about this bottle is that it comes with a UV-protectant matte coating. It means you don’t have to keep it away in a cupboard to maintain its freshness. I like how easily I can open and close the using the cap. It’s very convenient. I just wish they had a stopper on the opening so I can easily control the amount that goes out. This has a bit of a darker hue compared to your average olive oils, due to the basil. Olive oil is known to contain good fats and antioxidants that help the body become energized. It also powers up the brain and supports immunity, plus it promotes glowing skin by stimulating cellular restoration. I tried it with bread and it’s so good! This is infused with basil so I was curious as to how it will affect the natural taste of the olive oil. It had a light flavor, nothing overpowering, which I really liked, just lightly basil-ish!

I like using olive oil whether for cooking, making dressings, or even dipping, so I was happy to try a bottle from Brightland! I really like that even though it is infused with an herb, it doesn’t have an overpowering taste that others seem to have. I think this is a really great base for just about any dish but I really enjoyed dipping warm and toasty bread in it!

Brightland notes on their site that this is Beauty Food – “Promote glowing skin, eyes and hair, stimulating cellular restoration, preservation and longevity” Is this true?  I think consuming good fats and vinegars does help your skin and body work better, enhancing your natural beauty, so that’s a statement I’m willing to get behind, but most of all, I appreciate the artisan crafted oil and knowing that it’s not a fake oil (which many imported oils from Italy now are!). I also think this would make a wonderful corporate gift, especially if you’re looking to avoid an alcohol gift!

Thanks Vivv! Right now it looks like only The Duo is, I’m hoping the vinegars (“The Pair”) become a subscription too. We can always use a solid and reliable delivery of artisan oil and vinegar around here – we use it a lot!
