This is a review of the Black Tea Box!

Black Tea Box

  • Each month receive 4 new black loose leaf teas or 3 black teas and something that black tea drinkers will love
  • The Black Tea Box is a great fit for the tea drinker that wants to experience the darker flavor profiles that black teas have to offer
  • Explore teas from China, India, Sri Lanka, and more

I received a card with  a picture of sun tea. So pretty!

The back gave directions for making sun tea. I used to make this a lot when I was growing up, now I tend to make tea on the stove.

I found four linen pouches in my box. Simple Loose Leaf sends, you guessed it, loose leaf teas. You will need a way to remove the leaves after steeping. I have a steeping system but you could use these bags, buy disposable paper bags, use a French Press, or strain your tea afterwards, whatever works for you.

The side of the box had some helpful tips for steeping times and water temps. For instance, green and white tea should never be steeped with boiling water or for longer than 3 minutes (they will turn bitter).

A reminder that employees are getting life skills through working is on the other side of the box.

Everything in my box!

Simple Apricot Black Summer is all about the stone fruits and this flavor was very pleasant.

Simple Loose leaf suggest making iced tea with this flavor and I agree that it would make for a beautifully flavored iced tea.

Black tea and safflower petals are mixed with dried apricot pieces. The flavor is sweet and fruity, very similar to peach, and I think it’s a perfect way to start a summer morning, or serve it in winter to bring back those warm summer feelings.

Simple Raspberry Black One of my favorite tea flavors is raspberry, it’s super fruity and smells as good as it tastes!

South Indian black tea, freeze dried berries, and natural flavors can be found in this blend.

I enjoyed this tea hot with sugar and milk, but I know it would make an amazing iced tea!

Simple Sage is supposed to be “herbaceous and savory” but I found it was lovely as a desert after the rain.

Blackberry leaves and wild-crafted white sage leaves are mixed with South Indian black tea.

I lived in New Mexico for a couple of years and the smell of the land after the rain was just amazing, and I found that this has hints of that note. It was strong, with a tannic taste, so I added sugar and milk and reminisced about my time in the Land of Enchantment.

Summer Nights Every time I see the name of this tea I start singing the song from Grease!

I’ve never had “pancakes with maple syrup on the back porch overlooking a foggy morning”, but I have had a s’more, and this has similar flavors.

Black tea with marshmallows, cocoa nibs, and cinnamon chips makes for a sweet tea with lots of caramel notes. There is that bit of cinnamon flavor and even a hint of smoke from the Lapsang Souchong tea. Summer days are drifting away so make sure to stock up and enjoy the feeling come winter.

Simple Loose Leaf sends wonderfully flavored teas and I loved the flavors found in the August Black Tea Box. Berries and apricots are a no-brainer for summer flavors, but sage and the super interesting Summer Nights, with its smoky caramel notes, were two unexpected flavors that I’ve never encountered in a tea box before! I look forward to seeing what’s coming up in the fall!
