The Herd by Andrea Bartz ($17.27)

Why did the founder of a glamorous coworking space for women disappear? Her best friends will risk everything to uncover the truth.

“Fascinating and chilling.”—Samantha Downing, author of My Lovely Wife

NAMED ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED THRILLERS OF 2020 BY Marie Claire · Newsweek · The Boston Globe · HelloGiggles · Book Riot · PopSugar · CrimeReads · Bustle · She Reads

The name of the elite women-only coworking space stretches across the wall behind the check-in desk: THE HERD, the H-E-R always purple. In-the-know New Yorkers crawl over one another to apply for membership to this community that prides itself on mentorship and empowerment. Among the hopefuls is Katie Bradley, who’s just returned from the Midwest after a stint of book research blew up in her face. Luckily, Katie has an in, thanks to her sister, Hana, an original Herder and the best friend of Eleanor Walsh, the Herd’s charismatic founder.

Eleanor is a queen among the Herd’s sun-filled rooms, admired and quietly feared even as she strives to be warm and approachable. As head of PR, Hana is working around the clock to prepare for a huge announcement from Eleanor—one that will change the trajectory of the Herd forever. Though Katie loves her sister’s crew, she secretly hopes that she’s found her next book subject in Eleanor, who’s brilliant, trailblazing—and extremely private.

Then, on the night of the glitzy Herd news conference, Eleanor vanishes without a trace. Everybody has a theory about what made Eleanor run, but when the police suggest foul play, everyone is a suspect: Eleanor’s husband, other Herders, the men’s rights groups that have had it out for the Herd since its launch—even Eleanor’s closest friends. As Hana struggles to figure out what her friend was hiding and Katie chases the story of her life, the sisters must face the secrets they’ve been keeping from each other—and confront just how dangerous it can be when women’s perfect veneers start to crack, crumble, and then fall away altogether.

This mystery-thriller centers on a group of women and the elite co-working space for women called the HERD. The synopsis sounds really intriguing and I’m happy that the book lived up to the hype!

If you like reading books filled with mind games, this one is for you. It’s dark and twisted, with an ending that is just well-wrapped up!

The first gift can be opened when you reach page 97.

It comes in an envelope.

Handwriting Block Number. When I opened it, it made me wonder at first, what is this for?

It’s like what’s in the novel, a handwriting block number, one is written on what looks like a sticky note, and the other one is in a piece of torn paper.

The next gift can be revealed upon reaching page 120.

It’s packed in a really chic, striped box!

Pouch. It’s an exclusive Once Upon a Book Club pouch that screams girl power!

Inside the pouch, there’s also a set of makeup brushes!

Gleam Brush Set. I love these unicorn-themed make-up brushes!

The bristles are all colorful like a unicorn’s mane, while the handles look like the unicorn’s horn! You can also stash other essentials, accessories, or make-up items inside the cute pouch!

When you reach page 215, you can finally open the next gift!

It’s placed inside a classic-looking, polka dot pack!

Frida Kahlo Portrait. It’s a beautiful portrait of Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Eleanor, the missing person in the story, is a fan of Frida and that’s why they included this portrait in the box. I love this!

Upon reaching page 283, you can finally open the last gift!

This one was packed in a classic-looking polka-dot package, but instead of black and white, it’s fuchsia and white.

Craft Organizer. It’s a cool craft organizer! I really want to have this so I can arrange and keep my stuff organized!

I can easily hang it at the back of my door, or on the wall, or on a cabinet door. Also, you can easily see the stuff that you’re going to fill it with, and if not, you can even add sticker labels to easily sort things out!

Here’s everything that I got from this month’s box, and I am so happy with all of them, especially the set of brushes and the craft organizer!

This month’s featured book is really enthralling, as it talks about girl power, but the girl characters themselves are holding some secrets that create many twists and turns in the story. The HERD is a co-working group for females and they’re supposed to help each other up, but it turns out, on many occasions, they’re trying to outsmart and get ahead of one another. You’ll never want to put the book down just to know what really happened if the founder of The HERD ran away or there’s really a foul play. The items are really cool, and I love the pouch with the makeup brushes and the craft organizer. This subscription gives us a whole new reading experience! The books they send are always interesting and the related gifts add extra fun!
