Scaredy Mouse by Alan Macdonald ($14.95)

While embarking on a perilous mission to obtain the chocolate cake in the kitchen without disturbing a rather large ginger cat, Squeak, a terrified little mouse, must learn to overcome his fears, in a delightful tale filled with vibrant illustrations.

The back cover has the synopsis. The story is about the scaredy mouse named Squeak, who is convinced by his sister to go to the kitchen and have some delicious chocolate cake, and since he’s a cake lover, he did!

At first, Squeak was afraid to get lost, or worst, to meet the ginger cat, but his sister tied a string around him so he won’t get lost and find his way home. The story is adorable, so as the illustrations!

The humor of this book also appeals to kids. It’s great for reading aloud, and even as a bedtime read.

This Is Our Baby, Born Today by Varsha Bajaj ($8.95)

A baby is born and the world rejoices!

With a loving mama, a trumpeting herd, curious cousins, and even some dancing peacocks heralding this little one’s arrival, it is apparent that the joy and wonder a new baby brings is shared by all!

Varsha Bajaj’s lilting prose and Eliza Wheeler’s enchanting scenes of a wide-eyed baby elephant and its smitten family celebrate the importance of family and community in every child’s life. Set in the lush wilds of India, this is an endearing, beautifully illustrated tribute to little ones getting their first warm welcome to the world.

The arrival of a new life always calls for a celebration, and this is what this cute book is all about!

The design on the endpaper is really eye-catching with those beautiful floral and leaf patterns that surround the elephant! The dust jacket also contains the story synopsis.

The illustrations are awesome! It shows us the beautiful, and lush wilds of India!

The story is heartwarming, as it teaches kids about the importance of the family and community, who play vital roles in a child’s life from the day they were born until they grow to have a family of their own.

Starfish, Where Are You? by Barroux ($13.22)

Where’s the starfish? Where’s the jellyfish? Where’s the clownfish? What starts as a game of ocean hide-and-seek quickly turns into something more significant in this environmentally-minded book from award-winning French illustrator Barroux.

Starfish, Where Are You? is an almost wordless tale about marine pollution that offers readers the chance to discuss environmental concerns in a gentle way. This touching and elegant picture book is filled with intricate scenes and three sweet characters to spot on every page. With only a few sentences and beautiful, heartwarming simplicity, this charming story puts the power back in the hands (or fins) of the natural world—with a bold, stunning twist at the end. Readers are asked: “Where’s the Starfish? Where’s the Jellyfish? Where’s the Clownfish?,” and are tasked with finding each on the following pages as the fish are slowly forced out of the spreads by more and more trash accumulating in the ocean. A whale, upset with all the junk, pushes it all back onto land and comes back to the ocean with a big grin on his face.

The book has a powerful message about one of the biggest environmental issues we are facing: pollution.

Like the other books, there’s a short introduction about what the book is all about on the flap of the dust jacket.

The book contains little to no words, but just by looking at the photos, you’ll feel and understand the message the author is trying to convey.

It’s a gentle way for the kids to know more about this environmental concern. Through this, they will understand that throwing away garbage into the bodies of water has bad effects on the creatures who live there. You can help them come up with possible solutions, even in little ways!

Kids BookCase Club introduced us once again to beautiful children’s books! This month’s book picks are great as they impart important life lessons to children. Our favorite is definitely the book about sea creatures and the effects of pollution. It began a good conversation between my kids and I’m glad to see how they react to the story and even think for a solution to help even in their own little ways. It’s a wonderful box overall, everything they send is worthy of a slot in our growing mini-library!
