Butcher Box is a subscription box service that delivers premium quality meat for $129 per month. Each box comes with a selection of meat (about 15-20 meals worth) that has been carefully cut and prepared. The Butcher Box brings back that unique experience you get when you visit your local butcher shop. Their specialty is 100% grass-fed beef, but they also provided mixed subscription options. You can also have the box delivered every two or three months depending on your needs.

This is a review of our Beef Box. Our box this month includes ground beef for life (2 pounds!) and wings for life (2 pounds!). We also added on drumsticks, which are another free for life offer!!!

Here’s a list of what we’re getting this month!

We’ve always had everything arrive rock-solid, so there have been no issues with temperature control during shipping. The meat arrives ready to throw in the freezer or thaw for use.

All the meats are vacuum-sealed in plastic, packed in an insulated bag, and then kept frozen within the outer soft-side cooler padding and box with a large dry ice pack.

According to this part of the box, the packaging is made using eco-friendly and 100% recyclable materials.

Everything is portioned to a manageable size, so you can pull it from the freezer as needed without thawing more than you want.

There are a couple of big roasts, but everything else is portioned smaller.

Everything in my February 2020 box!

This month’s box includes an extra pack of chicken wings and ground beef! We got the drumsticks as add-ons! It was $49 – but they’ll be added to our box every single month for now on. This is my favorite feature of ButcherBox – you can really rack up the freebies and amp up the value of your box when you take advantage of the free for life offers, either when you sign up or as add-ons.

Chicken Drumsticks. We have 3 packs of drumsticks with each pack containing 4-6 pieces of organic, non-GMO and antibiotic-free drumsticks. They are huge cuts!

This part of the chicken is considered to be one of the meatiest and tastiest. They’re ideal for frying and they’re really a hit with my kids!

Chicken Wing Sections. These packs of wings are sourced from non-GMO and USDA-certified organic chickens. They don’t contain hormones and steroids either!

Each pack contains 7 to 10 pieces which are perfect either for frying or barbecue dishes!

Ground Beef. Ground beef is a monthly staple in our box! These packs of grass-fed ground beef consist of 85% lean meat and 15% fat, making it the ideal ingredient to use for burger patties.

This month’s box contains 4 one-pound packs. Aside from burger patties, these are also perfect for casserole dishes!

Grass-Fed Beef Premium Steak Tips. Steak tips usually come either from the sirloin, tri-tip, or coulotte. This part of the beef is ideal for grilling or braising!

This meat was trimmed perfectly with a nice layer of meat that features a smooth and tender texture. If cooked properly, this meat would definitely make a rich and flavorful ingredient!

Grass-Fed Beef Eye Round Roast. It’s a boneless low-fat eye round cut meat sourced from the lean and active beef muscle, meaning it contains lesser fat and produces a ton of flavor!

This chunk of beef is so meaty and it is ideal for marinating, grilled, or even pot roast dishes.

Top Sirloin Steak. Top sirloin steak is also known as beef strip loin steak, which is taken from the top of the rump part of the cow. It’s a triangular cut with a good layer of fat and tenderness!

Sirloin cap meat is normally used as a small roast, but since it’s so versatile, it can also be a major ingredient for other delicious dishes!

Grass-Fed Beef Flank Steak. This steak comes from the flank, a meat that is located just behind the plate and below the loin. It’s a large flat steak, with a very noticeable grain that runs crossways.

This meat is easy to cook. It is ideally marinated, grilled, and sliced thin. It is definitely one of the most popular choices for steak sandwiches or for serving over a fresh salad in buffets and parties.

Butcher Box is truly a great subscription. You may find it a little pricey, but the quality of the meat makes it totally worth it. Every box comes with 7 – 10 lbs of well-portioned meat that is perfect for a small family like ours. It works out to be about $6.50 per portion for the meat – and there is no difference in cost between getting all grass-fed beef or mixing them with organic chicken or even heritage pork. I really love the conditions of the beef we got from Butcher Box. They all arrived in a deep freeze and was portioned into manageable sized cuts, which makes meal planning easier. I’m giving this box a double thumbs up!

Stay tuned for our “what we made this month” post to show you our goodies all cooked up!
