For this month, we got the Bug Cupcake Baking Kit!

Included in the kit is a chef’s hat.

There’s also an apron!

The apron is made especially for the kids!

It’s nice to get some baking gear in the box beforehand so that the kids will feel the excitement of baking on their own, of course, with adult supervision!

Everything in the box is wrapped in a beautiful purple tissue paper sealed with an equally adorable Baketivity sticker.

The card has notes from Eli and Miriam, co-founders of Baketivity. They provided more information about the kit, and how they vacuum packed their products to maintain optimum freshness.

Everything inside the box is labeled, so it’s easy to tell which is which.

There’s another card with cute images of baked goods!

At the back, there are trivia about bugs!

The kit also included an Educational Activity booklet.

The booklet explains more about bugs like twig insects, ladybugs, bombardier beetles, and fire ants!

And now, we’re ready to make bug cupcakes! The whole Baketivity has 16 steps and it will take 1 hour to make 8 cupcakes!

The instruction sheet shows easy-to-follow instructions with images. I love how they made it kid-friendly!

It also lists the contents of the box: sugar, vanilla sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, chocolate frosting, sprinkles, chocolate lentils, and chocolate chips. You will also need a bowl, whisk, cupcake holders, cupcake pan, mixing spoon, knife, oil, egg, water, milk, or orange juice.

The booklet even has an on-page activity about bugs! Here’s they’d need to find all the bugs in the photo and identify each one of them!

Everything in the box!

Here’s everything that we need to make the baked goodies!

After identifying the contents of the box and separating them according to steps, it’s time to do the cupcakes! My kids measured the needed amount of oil.

The kids also combined wet ingredients: egg, milk and oil.

The next step is to add the sugar and vanilla sugar to the wet ingredient mixture.

They also prepared the dry ingredients. They combined the flour, salt, and baking powder and slowly poured the flour mixture to the egg bowl and whisked the batter until it’s smooth and free of lumps.

We transferred the mixture to a cup so that we can easily pour the mixture on the cupcake holders on a baking tray. We filled each holder until they’re 3/4 full. We baked them for 20-25 minutes and did the toothpick test. The toothpick came out clean and we let the cakes cool before decorating.

To decorate, we cut the top off the cupcakes.

we then cut the top in half.

In decorating the cupcakes, the type of bug will depend on how we put the cut top, as they will be the “wings”!

We made a total of 8 cupcakes!

The cupcakes look good and we really want to taste them right away, but we should decorate them first.

We made two types of bugs: ladybugs and butterflies!

We used the sprinkles and chocolate chips for the butterflies.

For the ladybugs, we used the chocolate lentils and chocolate chips.

They look yummy!

It’s really fun to decorate the cupcakes. The frosting smells amazing while we spread it on the cakes.

We made 4 colorful butterflies and 4 ladybugs!

These cupcakes are great as giveaways on parties as well!

We took a photo first before we devoured these delicious baked goods!

Here’s one of our favorite creations, a really colorful butterfly!

This ladybug here got colorful wings as well!

Baketivity is a dream come true for kids who love to bake and also a great introductory box for kids who have yet to discover the joys of baking! My kids definitely loved this kit. They enjoyed making and decorating the cupcakes, as well as munching on them afterward. The box provided everything that we need for the baked goods, we just needed the pans and oven at home. The finished products look awesome and they taste great too. This is a nice bonding activity for our family. It actually needs minimal supervision from me, as the kids can easily follow the instructions and do the steps. We all love this month’s recipe, and we’re excited about what’s coming next!
