January’s theme is VENGEANCE WILL BE MINE!

The items were cushioned with squiggles. Some of them arrived in their individual packaging as well.

OwlCrate always has the best info card prints!

The flip side lists all the items inside the box.

They also included an adorable mini-magazine!

Of course, the mini-magazine includes an author interview! This month’s featured author is Tara Sim. Knowing what inspired the author to pen a story can help children understand the book better.

They also suggested some titles for further reading, especially if you love this month’s book:

The mini-magazine also included some fun activities, while the other page is another interview, and this time, with a vendor, In The Reads!

There’s also a box photo challenge that you can join.

Everything in our January 2020 OwlCrate!

Enamel Pin. Owl Crate worked with Forensics and Flowers to produce this amazing pin. It’s inspired by this month’s featured book, Scavenge the Stars!

The pin has the tagline “bone to bone, blood to blood, name to name.” There are also swords, playing cards, and other treasures in the middle of the pin. They all look elegant on the black background.

Banner. The featured vendor, In The Reads, made this The Hobbit-inspired banner in collaboration with Owl Crate!

I’m loving the details on the map print. This banner is intended to hold our new pins from Owl Crate for this year! Exciting!

Socks. Any time is a good time to get a fresh pair of socks, especially if they’re as geeky as this pair! These exclusive socks are licensed by Out of Print!

The tag says that purchasing these socks helps fund literacy programs and book donations! Awesome!

The base color of the socks is black, with yellow cuffs, heels, and toes. They’re soft and comfortable, not to mention breathable!

The design is inspired by the cover art of the collector’s edition of the Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo!

Mirror. Here’s another Owl Crate exclusive item, a pocket mirror inspired by Nevernight! It comes with an Owl Crate drawstring pouch for safekeeping.

Aside from the mirror, it also comes with secret storage where you can keep small items or pills.

The hardware is silver-colored. It’s lightweight so I don’t have problems bringing it wherever I go.

Mug. The mug was packed in its own box. This is also an exclusive Owl Crate item.

Designed by artist Cara Kozik, the mug is Harry Potter themed. It’s also dishwasher and microwave safe!

This is the cutest!!! One side features such a colorful design and it’s nicely detailed.

The other side is darker and you’ll see Harry, Ron, and Hermione in it as well!

Scented Candle. A scented candle helps set the mood in a room! This one is called Reaper, and has notes of mulberry, plum, and spruce. It’s handmade by A Court of Candles.

It’s inspired by Children of Blood and Bone! When you remove the cap, you’ll see glitters on the candle. I love its purple color as well.

The box includes a card, featuring a Scavenge The Stars artwork.

At the back is a letter from the author!

The book has a sticker that says it’s an Owl Crate Exclusive Signed Edition.

Scavenge The Stars by Tara Sim ($13.29)

When Amaya rescues a mysterious stranger from drowning, she fears her rash actions have earned her a longer sentence on the debtor ship where she’s been held captive for years. Instead, the man she saved offers her unimaginable riches and a new identity, setting Amaya on a perilous course through the coastal city-state of Moray, where old-world opulence and desperate gamblers collide. Amaya wants one thing: revenge against the man who ruined her family and stole the life she once had. But the more entangled she becomes in this game of deception—and as her path intertwines with the son of the man she’s plotting to bring down—the more she uncovers about the truth of her past. And the more she realizes she must trust no one… Packed with high-stakes adventure, romance, and dueling identities, this gender-swapped retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo is the first novel in an epic YA fantasy duology, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Sabaa Tahir, and Leigh Bardugo.

This book is for fantasy and YA fans, especially for those who love revenge stories.

It’s a gender-swapped retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, which makes it more interesting. The story synopsis is also printed on the book’s dust jacket flap.

On the first page of the book is the author’s signature.

This is an excellent retelling, in a way that the author was able to recreate a whole new world and characters while still sticking to the core of the original work. It’s such an amazing read!

We can’t help but love the main characters as well, plus points for LGBTQIA+ representation!

They also gave us a theme spoiler for the February box, A Power Within!

At the back is the sneak peek! We’re so excited!

Owl Crate did it again! This month’s book pick is just superb. We enjoyed reading it and we’re simply amazed by the excellent world-building and the well-fleshed-out characters. The author deserves recognition for a job well done. As expected, the bookish goods were of high-quality. Most of them are Owl Crate exclusive, making this box really worthy of every penny. Our favorite among the bookish goodies is the Harry Potter-inspired mug. We’re also excited about the next box already because of the sneak peek they sent us!
