Starting this season, the wooden box will be replaced with a sturdy cardboard box. Personally, I preferred the wooden crate as I reused them for a lot of different things in the house.
The sleek black information card is replaced by a product catalog.
The catalog includes the description, a how to use it and key features of every single items.
TripWipes – Scented Towelettes. The first thing out of the box was this sample trip wipes scented towelettes for people on-the-go. This towelette is made to clean up your hands, but your phone, laptop, hotel remote controller, keyboard, anything your hand will touch that might not be clean, in an easy-to-carry format.
Tesla X Arc Lighter with Flexible Neck. Long-time subscribers will recognize this item from their Fall 2017 box, except that the version we received this time has a flexible neck.
It’s a rechargeable lighter (USB cable included) and you can lit up a lot of things on one charge.
The neck is flexible for a better reach, like inside a shallow pillar candle.
I really liked the one I received in a previous box, but I think this one will be even better with its neck.
Ace of Spades Wireless Power Bank. This is an other item that long-time subscribers would have recognized from the Fall 2017 box, but this one has wireless charging capability.
This power bank has a thick rubbery cover, but it’s lightweight and is only slightly bigger than my Google Pixel Phone. It looks really neat and I like that we have the possibility to charge with wire.
I was really excited to see a Type C connector as this is what my Pixel needs, but it’s an input. It doesn’t charge your phone. My cable Type C to USB was stolen a long time ago, so I wasn’t able to use it yet.
This shaker has three stainless steel parts with rubber seals between them.
The cap is a jigger with markings for 1/4 oz to 1 1/2 oz and a strainer. This is a nice addition to your home bar, especially around Christmas. I used it to make a couple of cold mocktails.
Detroit Wick Hand-Poured Candle. This 4oz tin candle a fun way to try out your new lighter. The catalog says this candle has BREO Box Signature Scent, but I can’t figure out what it is. It’s fresh, but with some greenery in it.
W&P Design Crushed Ice Tray. This silicon tray is said to be designed to make crushed ice easily in your freezer.
It’s made of two parts : a protective lid that lay on top of the flexible tray.
The tray will make long and thin icicles that can easily be crushed and poured in a glass.
It’s a very flexible mold that is freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave safe. The lid doesn’t clip on the tray because of how flexible everything is. We liked the idea, but moving the tray full of water to the freezer was quite an adventure as the water kept on spilling all over the floor and inside my freezer, no matter how we held the lid tight. We also realized that we needed a very flat surface inside the freezer to avoid more spillage and because our freezer is a drawer, we had to be very careful when opening it before it had time to freeze. So, a great idea, but it’s not something we will keep on using.
Ekho HD Video Drone. This was the main item in this box, as well as one of the spoilers.
This is a cute little portable drone. Its propellers can be folded on themselves when not in use.
It comes with a remote controller and a phone attachment for ease of use. It also has two fan blade caps to protect your propeller if your drone bump on something.
It also includes for extra propellers, an extra battery (each fully charged battery will give about 6 minutes of flight time and take about 70 minutes to fully charge), a charger and a screwdriver to access the battery slot on the remote controller.
Our phone was secure on the phone attachment and it was easy to control the drone through a bit of trial and error on the controller. Sadly, we were not able to use the camera even with the app (Apple Store and Google Play). We could see the Wi-Fi from the Drone, but we had no way to figure out the password. I read somewhere that the QR code for the password is in the operation manual, but we had neither a manual or a QR code inside the box. Until we can find a way to have access to the camera, this is a huge letdown for us.
BREO’s Winter box had mixed results for us. Beside not being able to connect the app to the drone, and the camera, we felt that there were a couple of repeats from earlier boxes. Newer subscribers would probably find this box quite interesting with a mix of gadgets and fun stuff to entertain, but we were not as excited as we used to be. We’re also going to miss our wooden box for its versatility, but the cardboard box is fine. We do appreciate that everything is gender neutral and all the items are easy to regift.
