This is a review of the October curated box – After Dark!

The items were wrapped in orange tissue paper.

The box design and color totally remind me of Halloween!

Aside from tissue paper, there are no extra packaging material. Still, the items arrived in great condition!

The card features tips so you can create your own beauty potions… err, skincare routine!

At the back, there are brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

There’s another promotional card from Birchbox!

It gives subscribers a FREE extra box when you gift Birchbox plus $5 off. It was for a limited time only, though.

Everything in my October 2019 box!

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser ($4.60) Cleansing is the first step in any skincare routine, and it’s important to get a good cleanser because it preps your skin for all the other products you will be putting on. This one from Kiehl’s is a nice choice for daily use because it deeply cleanses without irritating the skin. It’s made with a clay-based formula that removes dirt and bacteria, preventing them to clog your pores. It even helps reduce the appearance of visible pores. Key ingredients include Amazonian white clay, oat kernel meal, and aloe barbadensis.

amika Supernova Moisture and Shine Cream ($5.07) One might easily mistake this as a face or body cream because of the packaging, but it’s actually for the hair! It’s a leave-in conditioner packed with sea buckthorn oil, which supports overall scalp health. Lightweight and nourishing, the formula keeps your locks moisturized and frizz-free. It also offers protection from heat styling. I like that it leaves my hair soft, bouncy, and not greasy at all! To use, just apply on damp hair and style the way you like it. It also works for taming flyaways.

Love Beauty and Planet Volume and Bounty Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower Shampoo ($4.22) It’s the most pleasant smelling shampoo we’ve tried in a while! Vegan and paraben-free, it cleanses strands and leaves them soft and manageable. It contains coconut water for hydration, as well as notes of Moroccan mimosa flower, powdery honey, and raspberry cassis that make the scent lovely and addicting. I have fine hair and this gave my hair a bit more volume compared to regular shampoo.

Love Beauty and Planet Volume and Bounty Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower Conditioner ($4.22) To use with the shampoo is this conditioner, also made with coconut water and mimosa flower. This one also works with my fine hair, making them soft and bouncy without weighing them down. It even boosts the hair’s strength to prevent breakage. Another thing I like about this conditioner is that it doesn’t leave any residue! Just like the shampoo, the only thing it leaves is its lovely scent!

Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow ($10) This water-based liquid eyeshadow is smudge-proof and buildable, a nice alternative when you’re tired of the powdered ones. It gave my lids a subtle shimmer, and I love that I can layer it for a bolder look without the heavy or icky feeling.

I got it in Moonlight, a taupe shade. Just a few swipes and my lids already look fantastic. When it dries, the shadow stays on for a long time without creasing or flaking!

This month’s curated box is dominated by hair care products, including a fantastic shampoo and conditioner combo which worked well for my hair type and captivated me with their lovely scent. There’s also a cleanser and an eyeshadow that made the box feel full. I’m pretty happy with this curated box because everything is usable! The total retail value is $28. It’s not as high as the past boxes but I’m still happy with the curation overall! However, minus some points for arriving in November!
