Everything in my August 2019 Culture Carton!

It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis ($8.23)

“The novel that foreshadowed Donald Trump’s authoritarian appeal.”—Salon

It Can’t Happen Here is the only one of Sinclair Lewis’s later novels to match the power of Main Street, Babbitt, and Arrowsmith. A cautionary tale about the fragility of democracy, it is an alarming, eerily timeless look at how fascism could take hold in America.

Written during the Great Depression, when the country was largely oblivious to Hitler’s aggression, it juxtaposes sharp political satire with the chillingly realistic rise of a president who becomes a dictator to save the nation from welfare cheats, sex, crime, and a liberal press.

Called “a message to thinking Americans” by the Springfield Republican when it was published in 1935, It Can’t Happen Here is a shockingly prescient novel that remains as fresh and contemporary as today’s news.

With an Introduction by Michael Meyer
and an Afterword by Gary Scharnhorst

Featured at the back of the book are some ideas about the story, and how it relates to the past.

It’s truly an interesting book that contains timeless situations and instances that you can easily relate in our current political situation.

I find this book quite intriguing. Spreading of fake news, violence, and many more happening in the present day was mentioned here as well. It’s definitely worth reading!

Nikolas Ryan Pocket Square ($15) This pocket square looks really classy with its red and white stripes. It also has a thick lining. The material used is soft and smooth, making it the ideal accessory to pair with plain suits.

Jim Beam Whiskey Stones ($15) It’s an elegant set of 5 tasteless, extremely effective, granite-made whiskey stone rocks, beautifully packed in a black velvet bag. You can definitely wow your drinking buddies by these, or just enjoy them by yourself!

These rocks makes sure that your drinks maintain their original flavors and stay chilled for a long period of time. The chilling stones freeze within only a few hours, making them a must-have item for last-minute party planning.

Omit Watch ($80) This month’s featured item is a classic watch from Omit Watches!

The accessory came in a black box with a cushion, making sure that the watch arrives in perfect condition.

This exclusive watch from Omit has a classic Japanese quartz movement with full-function chronograph and tachymeter, which measures the speed based on travel or the distance based on speed.

It also features a black analog dial with white and silver luminous hands and date display.

This watch even has a stainless steel back case, strap, and buckle lock.

This watch is elegant and versatile. It can easily be worn with any kind of formal and casual suit.

Although I find this watch a little heavy than my other watches, it’s still very comfortable to wear!

Culture Carton is definitely a great subscription for modern men looking for sophisticated accessories and reads! Boxes are always well-thought-out, and they always come up with unique themes and exclusive items. I really appreciate the way they set themselves apart from other men’s boxes by avoiding a narrow focus on fitness or fashion. This month’s featured book is quite timely and intriguing. It’s extremely relevant in today’s political climate, with themes of fake news, violence, and radical politics making it an eminent subject for current readers. I also like the J.B. whiskey stones, they’re so cool and handy for celebrations with friends. The watch is a nice addition as well, as it is the very portrayal of sophistication and elegance. This subscription never fails to impress me!
