It’s the Ipsy vs. Sephora Play $10 Beauty Box showdown!
Ipsy vs. Sephora PLAY!
BOX BASICS: Al subscriptions are just $10 per month, so it’s easy to draw comparisons. All three of these beauty boxes also ship out 5 samples (Sephora PLAY! also sends a bonus fragrance plus a beauty item.)
CUSTOMIZATION: All subscriptions also ask you to complete a basic beauty profile. Ipsy allows you to rate items for ipsy match and has started allowing a limited number of subscribers to select an item, but that feature isn’t yet universal.
REFERRALS & POINTS: Ipsy offer referral points; redeem points on selected samples in the Ipsy bonus section. You earn points on the monthly Sephora subscription plus you can redeem a PLAY! card in-store for an extra 50 points on any purchase.
VARIATIONS: All of these boxes also send out multiple subscriber variations – we’re showing what we’ve reviewed here, and we would love to hear your experiences in the comments!
Our thoughts? You’re most likely to get items you’ll find in Sephora in PLAY!, including some cult up and coming goodies. That’s a no brainer. Ipsy is a mix of influencer faves, some prestige products, and some drugstore.
- Atelier Cologne Clementine California Cologne Absolute Pure Perfume ($2.45)
- Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer ($2.56)
- Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo ($5.18)
- Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser ($4.04)
- REN Clean Skincare Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic ($7)
- Shiseido ControlledChaos Mascara Ink ($8.59)
Total Value: About $30
It’s a great month for Play! by Sephora as they provided a cohesive curation of skincare and beauty products, including a gentle cleanser, a brightening toner, a skin-friendly primer, and a smudge-free mascara. There’s even a shampoo that turns dull and lifeless hair to soft and shiny locks. Everything in this month’s box is pretty much usable!
- Billion Dollar Brows Eyebrow Brush ($15)
- TheBalm Cosmetics Eyeshadow in the Run Down ($3.41)
- Pacifica Blush and Bronzer Duo (about $10 based on this item)
- Glamglow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer in Nude Glow ($6.91)
- MURAD Essential C Cleanser ($9)
Total Value: About $44
This month’s bag is all about skin-loving products and makeup holy grails, plus a dual-sided brush for the brows. The standout item is the bronzer and blush duo. The shades are exclusively made for Ipsy and they blend like a dream! The moisturizer and cleanser are satisfying as well. All in all, it’s a fantastic collection with nothing going to waste.
Review: Ipsy July 2019 Review
This month, we had a really hard time deciding on who won the crown as both provided awesome skincare and makeup items! Both Play! and Ipsy included really useful stuff, it’s just that Ipsy got it value-wise. Still, both did a very great job of providing us must-try samples and items, and we even got to try Play!’s detox shampoo that works so well in giving life to dull hair. We are looking forward to next month’s boxes, and we’ll see what other tricks these subscriptions have up their sleeves to impress us!
