First peek!

The July 2019 Box theme was Independence.

The back of the card listed the “spoilers”, or items in the box. The items tie in with different fandoms, TV shows, and books. For instance, one of the items is inspired by A Discovery of Witches. It also lists some unboxing challenges in case you want to share your photos on Instagram and possibly win a prize.

I found a playlist, which is available on the Spotify app. I found the YA playlist on the site but this one wasn’t on there for some reason.

The back of the card had a gratitude journal so you can jot some notes on how you are feeling.

My items were tucked into shredded paper squiggles.

Some items were wrapped separately. It’s like opening a present every month!

Looking good!

Everything in my box!

The Witch’s Bath A Discovery Of Witches “Diana Bishop” Black Raspberry & Vanilla Bar Soap is an exclusive item for this box! Ingredients were listed on the label, yay!

It has two layers and I think you should be able to tell what the top part is.

It’s a brain! The blue part of the soap has flecks of biodegradable glitter and the soap smells so good!

Mini Mason Jar is an exclusive item and features a quote from Peter Pan.

Such attention to detail! I’m not sure what to do with this jar though. The card says to take a picture with the tealights but the tealights do not fit in the jar! It will come in handy for holding small items like matches or paperclips.

Clockwork Heart Co Fight Club Mug Rug ($5?) I linked to a similar item but it looks like this one is slightly smaller (3.75″ x 3.75″) and the ones on the website are 6″ x 8″. The material is a reddish magenta with silver metallic accents and there is foam in between the layers.

The back has black fabric and this is kind of like a small mousepad! I think it is meant to be a coaster for your drink.

Good Omens Aloe Vera is an exclusive item from the Unplugged Book Box team. I haven’t watched Good Omens yet but it’s in my Amazon video list! Use it to “soothe away hell fire burns”.

Ingredients were listed on the (slightly crushed) bottle and of course it has aloe in the mix. It felt cooling. I am going to do my best to hopefully not get burned this summer but may stash this in my luggage just in case.

Get Fictional Red Rising Tealight Candles I wasn’t familiar with the Red Rising series but it has a caste system based on colors and it seems that Gold is the highest and Red is the lowest, hence the colors on the wrappers.

There was a code to save at the Get Fictional website.

Darrow smells like “sweet vengeance – sharp citrus – hot spice”, with a note of cinnamon. Mustang smells like “cool water – cinnamon – leather” and I think the water and leather notes are strongest. It is manly but subdued.

The Daughters Of Temperance Hobbs by Katherine Howe ($28 list price, now $18.30) I just about flipped when I got to the bottom of my box and saw the book for this month, I am so excited to have this in my hands! I read The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane many years ago and placed this one on my TBR list and now it’s here!

New York Times bestselling author Katherine Howe returns to the world of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane with a bewitching story of a New England history professor who must race against time to free her family from a curse

Connie Goodwin is an expert on America’s fractured past with witchcraft. A young, tenure-track professor in Boston, she’s earned career success by studying the history of magic in colonial America―especially women’s home recipes and medicines―and by exposing society’s threats against women fluent in those skills. But beyond her studies, Connie harbors a secret: She is the direct descendant of a woman tried as a witch in Salem, an ancestor whose abilities were far more magical than the historical record shows.

When a hint from her mother and clues from her research lead Connie to the shocking realization that her partner’s life is in danger, she must race to solve the mystery behind a hundreds’-years-long deadly curse.

Flashing back through American history to the lives of certain supernaturally gifted women, The Daughters of Temperance Hobbs affectingly reveals not only the special bond that unites one particular matriarchal line, but also explores the many challenges to women’s survival across the decades―and the risks some women are forced to take to protect what they love most.

Here’s a random page.

I found a bookplate signed by the author and placed it inside the cover of my book.

I think the letter from the author is always a nice touch.

The bottom of the box had a card with next month’s theme!

I am really enjoying my Unplugged Book Box – Adult version. My daughter has to explain the fandoms in the YA version of the box but I know most of the ones in the adult version! I look forward to reading my book and burning the candles, while the aloe will come in handy just in case. The other items rounded out the box nicely.
