The contents were sealed with a star sticker.

The items were cushioned with shredded paper squiggles and were tucked into blue tissue paper.

The June 2019 Summer Solstice Box theme was Create Your Own Sunshine. Some of the fandoms are based on LGBTQ+ characters and the main book explores sexuality.

The back of the card listed the “spoilers”, or items in the box. The items tie in with different fandoms, TV shows, and books. For instance, one of the items is inspired by Sailor Moon. It also lists some unboxing challenges in case you want to share your photos on Instagram and possibly win a prize.

I let my 15-year old daughter unwrap the “gifts”, she always tells me about the fandoms.

Everything in my box!

There was a playlist which I listen to while blogging!

The back of the playlist had a recipe for a tasty smoothie.

The theme for the July box was revealed on another card.

The back of that card says that there are mystery boxes available in the online shop!

Typewriter Hearts Sugar Scrub in Pomegranate & Sass I love to use sugar scrubs and this one was a bit different from the ones I usually try, I would describe it as a “dry” rub!

The scent is a combo of “pomegranate & sass” and smells sweet, fruity, and a bit warm.

I applied it to shower-damp skin and then went over each area really well before rinsing. It was almost like using a facial exfoliater but it did the job and I was surprised to find that my skin was left feeling silky soft afterwards.

I appreciate that a list of ingredients was included in the box!

Novel Grounds Shine Bright Pouch Unplugged Book Box sends a lot of exclusive items, most from Etsy vendors. This bag is similar to others on the Novel Grounds site. It is about 5″ x 7″. The wording on the outside is glittery silver, but not the kind of glitter that sheds.

The inside is lined and it has a zipper closure.

Riddle’s Tea Shoppe The Greywaren Tea is an exclusive tea blend made just for this box!

I wan’t to point out that since this has no actual tea leaves, it is an herbal tea and is caffeine-free, not decaffeinated, as mentioned on the label. Rooibos is a stand in for camellia sinensis and makes for a hearty base. I was happy to see steeping instructions on the bag.

The rooibos was strong in this herbal tea with the caramel flavor coming in a close second. I’m not sure it was all that fruity, but it was warm and sweet.

Bubble Princess Shower Steamer Here is another exclusive item!

Aww, it’s a little heart-shaped shower steamer.

Sorry I didn’t get a picture of the steamer, it was crumbling and I didn’t want to make a mess! Ingredients were on the package. I have two requirements from a shower steamer: it needs to dissolve (believe it or not I’ve received some that don’t!) and I want to be able to actually smell it while taking a shower. This shower steamer passed both tests with flying colors! It was on the small side and dissolved quickly, but the peppermint/menthol combo rose to the occasion.

Sailor Moon Enamel Pin According to the card, this is Unplugged Book Box’s first of 3 collectible pins! I usually place pins on my book bag, I frequent the library a lot.

Like A Love Story by Abdi Nazemian ($12.32) is a story set during the AIDS epidemic of the 1980’s, which I remember well. It involves a love triangle of sorts.

It’s 1989 in New York City, and for three teens, the world is changing.

Reza is an Iranian boy who has just moved to the city with his mother to live with his stepfather and stepbrother. He’s terrified that someone will guess the truth he can barely acknowledge about himself. Reza knows he’s gay, but all he knows of gay life are the media’s images of men dying of AIDS.

Judy is an aspiring fashion designer who worships her uncle Stephen, a gay man with AIDS who devotes his time to activism as a member of ACT UP. Judy has never imagined finding romance…until she falls for Reza and they start dating.

Art is Judy’s best friend, their school’s only out and proud teen. He’ll never be who his conservative parents want him to be, so he rebels by documenting the AIDS crisis through his photographs.

As Reza and Art grow closer, Reza struggles to find a way out of his deception that won’t break Judy’s heart—and destroy the most meaningful friendship he’s ever known.

This is a bighearted, sprawling epic about friendship and love and the revolutionary act of living life to the fullest in the face of impossible odds.

Here is a random page from the book!

There was a bookplate, which is signed by the author, that you can choose to place inside the front cover if you wish.

Plus a letter from the author.

Unplugged Book Box does a nice job of curating products that go with the theme of the month. The body scrub and shower steamer were my favorite products, they worked well and smelled good. The tea was tasty and the bag will come in handy for holding lip balm etc. It’s hard to get a good value for everything since some of the items are exclusives, but most of the items are bookish in nature. The playlist is always a superb touch.
