The dog meals were packed in a well-insulated box so they are kept cool and fresh. Look at those cute paw prints!

There’s a welcome letter for us, which also includes a week-one starter guide!

Everything in my box! We received the Texas Beef Stew and Turkey Pawella – they also have Porky’s Luau!

We got three packs of dog food! All of them are sous-vide cooked. A Pup Above explained more about this on their website:

Popularized in high-end restaurants, this innovative cooking method has several health benefits for our dogs. For dog food, the benefits are nutrients aren’t lost to cooking water like with traditional cooking. Food retains moisture and cooks perfectly. And three, the ingredients literally marinate in the meat juices for almost 2 hours delivering an explosion of flavor dogs love. Together it makes for a food that’s both healthy and delicious to our beloved pups.

Texas Beef Stew Slow cooked, these beef patties are oozing with yummy meat juices. They’re free from hormones and antibiotics, plus non-GMO vegetables.

There’s a use by date at the back of every package. This one says December 2020!

Ingredients

Ground beef, beef liver, green peas, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, canola oil, monocalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, magnesium oxide, salt, ferrous sulfate, L-tryptophan, zinc oxide, selenium, copper sulfate, manganese sulfate, calcium iodate, vitamin D3 supplement.

Inside the blue packaging, there are 3 pouches that you can easily open and dole out into your dog’s bowl. These are pretty awesome – if you forget to defrost, you can pop some in a bowl of water to speed up the process – these are the bags the meals are cooked in, which minimizing handling – I think that’s a plus.

I transferred some into the bowl and, as you can see, Texas Beef Stew has solid bits of veggies in it. It also smells of beef – a great natural scent.

I also don’t have to worry about anything because this dog meal is grain-free, gluten-free, and soy-free.

Turkey Pawella ($34.99) The turkey used by A Pup Above for this meal is restaurant grade, antibiotic-free, and hormone-free. Turkey is a nice alternative to beef because it’s rich in lean protein and also contains a throng of vitamins and minerals.

They made the most out of the packaging by listing all the important information on it. It even includes directions on how to store and feed the meal to your dog.

Ingredients

Turkey beef, turkey liver, tomatoes, carrots, green peas, rice, monocalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, magnesium oxide, salt, ferrous sulfate, L-tryptophan, zinc oxide, selenium, copper sulfate, manganese sulfate, calcium iodate, vitamin D3 supplement.

Like the first bag, this one also contains 3 pouches. I also love the exterior bag – it really kept my freezer organized!

The turkey meal has lighter color. Its smell was enticing for my pups as well.

Looking closer, it has lots of vegetable bits in it!

Time to feed both the beef and turkey meals to my pups!

Well, Dean and Lindy absolutely loved it!

They immediately emptied the bowl right after the photos! Lindy is particularly picky about her food – it’s really got to have vegetable chunks in it to meet her exacting standards, and A Pup Above delivered!

A Pup Above did a wonderful job of crafting delicious and healthy food for dogs. Both the beef and turkey variants were a hit with our pups. It’s only our first box, but we’re already quite impressed. What’s even more awesome is that you can customize your subscription to your dog’s size and it’s totally up to you if you want a full plan (in case you want to fully transition to A Pup Above meals) or a 1/2 plan (for a nutritional boost). Overall, it was a pawfect and pawsitive experience for us so we’re really happy!
