nmnl is a monthly beauty subscription box by the brains behind Tokyo Treat and Yume Twins. This is the new and improved nmnl! For the last few years since their launch, they have only included Japanese beauty brands but have taken subscriber wishes into consideration and have redesigned it to feature both Japanese and Korean beauty!

DEAL: Use coupon code HELLOSUBS at checkout to save 10% ($3.50) on your first box!

The items were wrapped in pink tissue paper. This month’s theme is Natural Beauty.

The booklet has also been redesigned and features the same content as before, from box contents to contests and photo features.

Fiancee Sara Sara Sheets — A couple of years ago I got introduced to the sara sara sheet: a deodorizing, refreshing wipe popular in the hot summers of Japan. They leave skin feeling clean and cool. This pack of 20 has a citrus grapefruit scent.

Maneki Neko Bath Salts — Maneki Neko, or Fortune Cat, is a pretty recognizable symbol! The scent is orange blossom. I love taking baths so items like these are perfect for me.

Brush Cleansing Wipes — For days when you don’t have time to wash your makeup brushes, these come in handy! The wipes are s

Berrison Horror Mask — I’ve been giving my printed masks to my friend Katie, who is endlessly entertained by them. This spooky skeleton Berrisom mask is infused with black rice, which is a very soothing ingredient. You won’t feel like the walking dead after using this healing mask.

Etude House Oh My Lash Life Mascara — Etude House makes cute and affordable skincare and makeup products. They cater to a younger audience but the products are genuinely pretty good. Unfortunately they do test on animals, so I won’t use this mascara for myself but based on my previous experiences Korean mascaras tend to be very high quality.

Canmake Lip Jam — Canmake is a popular Japanese drugstore brand known for its cute packaging. Canmake doesn’t test on animals within Japan, but it’s hard to say if they’re completely cruelty free. Nonetheless, this is a really exciting product to include. The Lip Jam is a lip tint with a thicker texture much like jam.

Is it just me or does it look like a small flowery coffin? Haha!

The orangey-brown shade isn’t my favourite but the texture is really unique.

Fuwafuwa Cleansing Pad — A super soft microfiber cleansing pad. It has a handy loop to slip your finger into. Sadly the cute bear design isn’t printed on it, it’s just the packaging.

Panda Face Pad — This is a typically Japanese beauty tool in that it’s totally a gimmick but it’s so darn CUTE. nmnl didn’t provide a lot of info but I even see something about ions on the packaging?

You use it by soaking a cotton round in whatever serum you want, and then use the panda face and the panda ear ring to sandwich it to the wand so you can rub it into your skin. I’m not entirely sure of the benefit but it sounds something like why jade rollers are popular right now — by not using your hands, the product doesn’t soak into them and it all ends up on your skin instead.

After the super disappointing April box, nmnl kicked it out of the park for May! This was a really cool assortment of items. I like that some tools were included but unlike April they were more different and varied. I would really like to see nmnl branch out on the Kbeauty side and explore other brands like Klairs, CosRX, Benton, etc. They play it safe sticking with cutesy Etude House and similar brands known for the kawaii packaging, but one area where Kbeauty shines is the effectiveness of the actual products.
