There are some black squiggles, as well as bubble wrap for fragile items.

The March 2019 box includes a booklet and a button pin.

The button pin features Ancient Greece, the place where the first Olympic games were held.

This Flavors of the World Box is all about ANCIENT GREECE!

The booklet is very informative, as it provides fun facts about Greece. It even includes a mini vocabulary section that translates English words to Greek words.

It also features some well-known recipes from Greece!

On this part of the booklet is a brief description of how people live during the Ancient Greece era. The article focuses on the three major areas which are food, architecture, and religion.

Of course, they provided a list of items included in this month’s box.

There’s even a fun crossword puzzle activity. The booklet also provided some clues for the next month’s featured country!

Everything in my box!

As promised, we got recipe cards featuring dishes from the featured country.

The first recipe is Chicken Souvlaki! It’s a popular Greek food that consists of small pieces of meat which are grilled on a skewer.

The second recipe is Trachanas, a traditional Greek pasta used to be eaten by the ancient Greeks. It’s a delicious dish made from flour, milk, and eggs. There are actually two types of Trachanas: the sweet and the sour.

Ion Choco Freta. This snack bar is made with a crispy wafer covered by a luscious layer of chocolate. Each bite is satisfyingly crunchy! The chocolate melts in the mouth too!

10″ Metal Skewers. These skewers are made with stainless steel rods with a pointed tip and a handy grip on the other end.

The pointed tip makes it easier to pierce even the toughest meat. Using a stainless rod for preparing barbecue is much better than the wooden one, as it fairly distributes the heat.

Sitos Trachanas Sweet ($9.49) It’s a traditional pasta made from all-natural ingredients such as wheat flour, freshly pasteurized sheep’s milk, and salt that all can be found in the Arcadian region of Greece.

This pebble-shaped pasta drastically expands once cooked. It’s one of the major ingredients in preparing Tranchanas.

Oregano & Greek Seasoning. I find seasonings interesting because every country has a unique one. From Greece, we got hand-blended seasonings made with Mediterranean oregano, onion, garlic, sea salt, black pepper, parsley, cinnamon, and round nutmeg.

The seasonings come in resealable plastic packs, making it easier to store after every use.

Zanae Mediterranean Delicatessen Grape Leaves ($6.50) Vine leaves stuffed with rice are one of the most iconic food items in the Mediterranean diet.

We got this delicacy in a can. Aside from rice and leaves, it contains onion, vegetable oils, salt, spearmint, black pepper, and citric acid.

There were five piece of stuffed vine leaves, which are soaked in liquid and ready-to-eat!

The way it was wrapped reminded me of spring rolls. It’s surprisingly tasty and it would make a great appetizer.

Olympiana Kalamata Olives Pitted. Olives are another popular Mediterranean cooking ingredient. We got a pack of them which are pitted and marinated with extra virgin olive and Mediterranean herbs.

Upon opening the clear container, you can easily recognize the herbs used and the freshly marinated olives.

Here’s a closer look, isn’t it mouthwatering?

Each piece features a smooth and shiny texture. It’s oozing with juiciness too, a perfect ingredient for a healthy salad!

EPSA Sour Cherry Drink. It’s a delicious non-carbonated sour cherry drink made from sour cherry juice, sugar, and citric acid mixed with some preservatives (potassium sorbate) and antioxidants (ascorbic acid).

This drink is on the sour side but refreshing, especially when served freezing cold!

Olympiana Olive Oil. It’s an award-winning olive oil made from the highest quality ingredients sourced directly from Greece.

This is used to enhance dishes and give them that fruity, aromatic, and peppery flavor.

It’s so fresh and very healthy, definitely the ideal oil to use for dressing all our Greek food!

According to the card, the olive oil should be stored away from heat and sunlight because it might cause deterioration of freshness, taste, and value of oil.

The back of the card provides more information about the Olympiana Greek Olive oils.

Loukoumi Mini Bites ($6.68) We’ve got some Greek confections too! These chewy and flavorful goodies are made from cornstarch, honey, and fruit juice jelly sprinkled with powdered sugar.

The back of the box contains all the essential information about the product.

The box is filled with powdered sugar, I can barely see the goodies.

The candies come in a variety of weight and shapes, but every one of them is definitely bite-sized.

These candies are in a variety of fruity flavors such as rose, mastic, lemon, orange, and must.

Of course, I didn’t pass up the chance to whip up the featured recipes in my own kitchen. I prepared the Trachanas first, and I started with slicing and mincing the ingredients as needed.

Next step is to add extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, onion, and pepper in a pot. Saute until it becomes translucent, and then add the stock and the trachanas.

Trachana is served with caramelized lemon. It’s quite easy to make, just cut the lemon in half and place the halves cut side down and then brown for 3-5 minutes or until caramelized.

When it’s done, transfer the trachanas into a bowl and top it off with parsley and a pinch of black pepper. It’s warm and delicious, a perfect comfort food.

For the Chicken Souvlaki, the first step is to marinate the chicken using oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, Greek seasoning, and oregano for 15-20 minutes.

After marinating, carefully put each cut of chicken meat on the metal skewer and place it inside the oven with the pointy side facing inward.

Wait for about 18-20 minutes, or until it becomes golden brown.

According to the card, this dish is best served with Fresh Pita bread, Tatziki sauce, tomatoes, sliced onions, and parsley. It was tasty and filling, making it a wonderful dinner meal for the whole family.

Flavors of the World Box provided us with a great mix of premium quality ingredients, detailed cooking manual, and a booklet that contains a lot of information about the featured country. This month’s box is our first, and I’m really amazed at how everything gave me a taste of Ancient Greece without having to leave home. The box even includes some bonus items and I couldn’t be happier. It’s been a great start for us, and I’m looking forward to whipping up more tasty and exciting dishes from other countries through this box!
