The back of the card has information about the month’s book selection as well as the other items included, and how they all tie into the theme.

Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent ($11) — A thriller set in Ireland complete with a murder mystery and a seriously dysfunctional family. Perfect for March and St Patrick’s Day!

My husband did not mean to kill Annie Doyle, but the lying tramp deserved it.

On the surface, Lydia Fitzsimons’s life seems idyllic. Her husband, Andrew, is a prosperous, respected judge; they live in the spacious, comfortable, well-appointed house where she was raised. And she is utterly, obsessively devoted to her son, Laurence—her adored only child, her pride and joy.

But Andrew’s murder of Annie Doyle, accidental or not, sets into motion a dark downward spiral. It doesn’t take long for Laurence to suspect that something is very, very wrong in the Fitzsimons household—and he is determined to discover the truth.

This definitely isn’t my sort of book, and judging by the Amazon reviews it’s a bit polarizing. I’ll give it a whirl and see if it pulls me in — Sweet Reads generally wins me over with their fantastic curation.

Irish Cream Hot Chocolate — Gourmet Village is a Canadian company that makes awesome mixes for sauces, drinks, etc. I have tried pretty much all of their hot chocolate mixes, and an Irish Cream one is perfect for this Irish setting.

Sea Flakes Chocolate — A perfectly portioned bar of UK chocolate with sea salt flakes. This was so delicious.

Claddagh Socks — The Claddagh is a traditional symbol that represents love, loyalty, and friendship. These socks are a woman’s size 5-11, so a pretty universal size. My feet are tiny but socks are cozy even if they’re a bit big. The hands represent friendship, the crown is loyalty, and the heart is love.

Irish Accent Gum — I knew immediately this gum was by Blue-Q, who does the funniest but practical items. This peppermint gum will possibly turn you Irish.

Pill Case — Foreshadowing for the novel, apparently pills are a plot point. This oversized pill is big enough to stash an emergency supply of Advil or Tylenol, or prescription meds for on the go.

Milk and Honey Soap — The Perth Soap Co is a Canadian soapworks company and this is a really nice bar of soap. It smells great and it’s not stripping on the skin. This is a new permanent staple in my shower.

Lucky Clover Pushpins — A cute accent to a corkboard! I don’t have one in my house but I think this is such a neat idea to add a pop of colour. I’m bringing these to work with me because I have coworkers who will appreciate them for their offices.

Sweet Reads Box always sends a great book selection as well as treats to eat and to enjoy. The book this month will be a challenge for me, but I definitely accept it and will give this interesting story a chance. This subscription is my favourite to suggest to my bookworm friends who can never decide what to read next!
