The hardbound books for this month are About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis, and The Texan Duke by Karen Ranney.

About That Kiss by Jill Salvis ($18.35)

When love drives you crazy . . .

When sexy Joe Malone never calls after their explosive kiss, Kylie shoves him out of her mind. Until she needs a favor, and it’s a doozy. Something precious to her has been stolen and there’s only one person with unique finder-and-fixer skills that can help—Joe. It means swallowing her pride and somehow trying to avoid the temptation to throttle him—or seduce him.

the best thing to do . . .

No, Joe didn’t call after the kiss. He’s the fun time guy, not the forever guy. And Kylie, after all she’s been through, deserves a good man who will stay. But everything about Kylie makes it damned hard to focus, and though his brain knows what he has to do, his heart isn’t getting the memo.

… is enjoy the ride.

As Kylie and Joe go on the scavenger hunt of their lives, they discover surprising things about each other. Now, the best way for them to get over “that kiss” might just be to replace it with a hundred more.

This book is #5 in the Heartbreaker Bay stories by Jill Shalvis, but is a standalone story that you can read out of sequence. Do note: you’ll see appearances of the characters from the other stories and a pretty good setup for #6 featuring Molly Malone. A quick read this book left me wanting to read the rest of the series!

The explosive kiss happens before the story starts, possibly at the end of book #4 in the series, but sets the tension for the book right out of the gate. Both, Joe and Kylie, were moved by the kiss but don’t think the other really likes them overly much. Their relationship builds throughout the book as they try to discover who stole Kylie’s wood carved penguin figurine from her grandfather that holds both sentimental and monetary value.

As their relationship builds, I was particularly pleased that the turning point was Joe realizing that he couldn’t make all the decisions for Kylie even if he thought he was protecting her!

The story made me swoon! It offers a love story that is both thrilling and sweet! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

The Texan Duke by Karen Ranney ($17.26)

New York Times bestselling author Karen Ranney’s third book in her Duke series spins the tale of a reluctant duke who must choose between his life in America—and the Scottish woman he’s destined to love…

As the ward to the late Duke of Lothian, Elsbeth Carew resides at the ancestral estate of Bealadair. Fiercely attached to the manor, she loves it more than anyone else. When Connor McCraight—the new Duke of Lothian—arrives, Elsbeth does not quite know what to make of the American who has inherited the title but has never even set foot on Scottish soil. The tall, ruggedly handsome Texan sweeps through Bealadair with an air of authority Elsbeth has never encountered.

Connor has no intention of making Scotland his home and hopes to sell the estate as soon as possible. But his plan is jeopardized when he meets Elsbeth. A sweet, gray-eyed beauty, she tempts him in ways no other woman has. As word spreads of Connor’s intention to sell Bealadair, his life is threatened—and the only woman who can save him may be the one he has hopelessly lost his heart to.

The third in the Duke Trilogy by Karen Ranney, each book in the series is a standalone and feature no crossovers from the previous books, so you can dive right into this one!

It is a story about a Scottish girl, Elsbeth, who was the late Duke’s ward, and now she’s faced with a new Duke, an American who has never set foot on Scottish soil and only recently learned of his Scottish heritage!

Connor, the new duke, has no intention of staying in Scotland and plans to sell the estate as soon as possible, however, those plans quickly change when he becomes smitten with Elsbeth. As the book progress Ranney weaves in a thread of mystery, someone is trying to get rid of Connor! Will Connor and Elsbeth discover who it is before it is too late?

Ranney’s characters are wonderfully real, and very charming! This was also a quick and enjoyable read!

BookCase.Club offers a variety of book genre that will most likely appeal to a lot of readers, of any age. The romance books this month both have beautiful stories, and I really feel in love just by reading them. However, I’m looking for different kind of romance stories, a romance comedy perhaps? Or even a historical romance will do. Well, let’s see on the next box, maybe my wish will be granted. Still, I am happy to get these new reads!
