Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, a beauty bonus, a fragrance bonus, playlists, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

This is the new monthly bag design going forward. It is a reusable zip-top bag that is 100% recyclable. I like that you can get a hint of the products inside.

And don’t forget the quote on the back. Let’s see where this adventure takes us.

Don’t forget about your Play! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to Play! Date meetups, if your store participates. You can also get a complimentary mini-makeover too.

Let’s not talk about the frightful coloring on this picture. IDK what happened with my camera. This month’s theme is Scary-Good Beauty. Products selected are intended to keep you partying all night long. Let’s get to trick or treating! Plus, don’t forget to check out The Beauty Insider Community. Create a profile and start joining the discussion!

The fold-out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus tips on selecting natural ingredients to help with your beauty needs. You can access all of the information and also watch videos right on the Sephora site or use the app for more info!

Here’s my October box reveal. I received variation was 007. Click here to see variant items in other boxes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills | Stick Foundation – Banana ($5.49): This is a cream foundation stick that provides highly pigmented, buildable coverage. The stick formulation/design makes applying this easy and mess-free. This is ideal for combination to oily skin and leaves a demi-matte finish. Banana is not a color that I would use as a foundation base, but it is a good contour or highlight color. I use this under my eyes to help cover dark circles and brighten the area.

Here’s a swatch of the color. This actually goes on very smoothly (despite the look of the swatch) and is easy to blend.

tarte | Rainforest of the Sea Quench Hydrating Primer ($3.20): This is a combination primer and moisturizer. It contains algae and marine plant extracts to soften and smooth skin, while hyaluronic acid moisturizes. I thought this was OK when going for a more natural look; however, I still prefer my Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. This wouldn’t be something I reached for with my everyday work look, as I prefer a primer with a matte finish that has more of a blurring effect.

philosophy | purity made simple eye ($4.80): Good for all skin types, this eye gel will hydrate and revitalize eyes with an energizing complex. The formula contains ginko biloba, caffeine, and horse chestnut to make the eye area look more rested. It reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, while working to promote firmness and elasticity in the skin. Compared to some eye gel/cream samples, this was a generous amount, and I am thankful for it. I liked this product and thought it lived up to its promise.

benefit | Gimme Brow + Volumizing Eyebrow Gel in 05 Deep ($7.20): This tinted brow gel is formulated with microfibers to volumize, color, and tame brows for a bold look. I have received this before and absolutely love it, especially since I have patchy brows. I use a pencil to shape my brows and fill in with the Gimme Brow for a polished look. The formula is water-resistant and long-wearing.

Here’s a closer look at the brush. You’re supposed to be able to use the tip to shape the brow, but I have better control with my pencil. ? Please ignore my dry cuticles and lack of a manicure.

Caudalie | Vinoperfect Radiance Serum ($26.33): So, let me start off by noting how pricey this serum is! That said, it is a multi-tasker; it works to improve skin tone, correct texture, and moisturize. Bonus tip, apply this under your sunscreen for a more even tan. This has a lightweight formula that absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy or oily feel. Personally, I like using this as a night serum.

Chloé | Eau de Parfum ($1.74): “Intimate and sensual, the Maison’s signature fragrance draws on the classic rose, the ultimate feminine scent, to create a modern and timeless perfume.”  This powdery floral scent has the following notes:

  • Top notes – pink peony
  • Middle notes – rose and magnolia
  • Base notes – cedar and ambergris

Even though I am not a fan of rose, I can appreciate the classic femininity of this fragrance. It is a soft scent, but don’t confuse that with underwhelming. A little of this goes a long way, and the scent is long-wearing.

I was very pleased with my October Play! by Sephora box. I really feel that this month’s curation was in line with my profile and tailored for me. I haven’t found an ABH item that I didn’t like, and the foundation stick wasn’t an exception. Gimme Brow… yes, please! Overall, the product value this month was around $49, with one item accounting for $26 of that.  BUT, for $10, I’m still getting my money’s worth. Thank you, Sephora.
