Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, a beauty bonus, a fragrance bonus, playlists, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.
Everything arrives packed in a bag, preventing items from rolling around in the box. We’re going back to school with Sephora this month. How do your products measure up? LOL
Don’t forget about your Play! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to Play! Date meetups, if your store participates. You can also get a complimentary mini-makeover too.
This month’s theme is Beauty Schooled. The products were selected to take you beyond your normal beauty routine with their high performance grades. How did you score on this month’s pop quiz? Plus, don’t forget to check out The Beauty Insider Community. Create a profile and start joining the discussion!
The fold-out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus tips on selecting natural ingredients to help with your beauty needs. You can access all of the information and also watch videos right on the Sephora site or use the app for more info!
August box reveal. My variation was 353. Click here to see variant items in other boxes.
Anastasia Beverly Hills | Clear Brow Gel ($6.47): Love, love, love this brow gel! Before getting this, I was a daily user of ABH’s Brow Primer, a clear wax pencil. However, I really like the more natural look I get with this gel, and my brows don’t move if I accidentally rub them. The formula has a conditioning base that uses chamomile. Bonus, this can also be used to smooth down baby hairs around your hairline.
GRANDE COSMETICS | GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper ($16.07): I’m a fan of Grande Cosmetics’ lash primer, so I’m hoping this lip plumper works just as well. However, as someone with naturally full lips, this isn’t a product I need. The formula contains Grande’s Volulip for plumping and hyaluronic acid to moisturize and firm. Wear this alone for a no-makeup look, or under your favorite color for more drama. The sample comes with a doe foot applicator, while the full-size product has a silicone tip on the tube.
Make Up For Ever | Artist Rouge Lipstick – C211 ($7.33): C211 is a rosewood shade with a satin finish. Artist Rouge is a collaboration between MUFE and music duo Icona Pop. The bold color formulas contain 25% more pigment than MUFE’s original Rouge Artist lipsticks. The mauve-y color is flattering on most skin tones. Plus, the formula is very creamy and does not dry out lips.
ORIGINS | Original Skin™ Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay ($8.40): I’m always happy with an Origins product and/or a clay mask. Since this is both, I’m a very happy girl! Pink clay masks have been all over the place lately, so I wasn’t too surprised to see some version in my Play! box (it was only a matter of time). This mask combines Mediterranean Rose Clay with Canadian willow herb and jojoba beads to cleanse and exfoliate skin. I have larger pores on my cheeks (just under my eyes), and this mask made them appear a little smaller after just one use. Also, the exfoliating beads felt so good as I scrubbed this off – it was like a mini massage.
Moroccanoil | Dry Texture Spray ($3.55): As someone with curly hair, the texture is generally not an issue for me unless I’ve straightened my hair. I like that this has argan oil to nourish and protect hair, but it is not a product that I will be using anytime soon. I think Sephora’s grade went from an A to a C with this choice.
Amika | Bust Your Brass Cool Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner ($1.81): I was so confused by this product. While I color my hair, I am far from being blonde. Plus, my gray hairs have not taken more than 15% of my head… This ended up with my sister’s mother-in-law, who is blonde. She liked the formula and said it left her hair feeling softer. Amika’s products contain sea buckthorn berry, which is loaded with vitamins and proteins that promote healthy hair. This particular formula of shampoo/conditioner is designed to reduce brassiness while bringing out color, restore moisture, and soften hair.
August’s Play! by Sephora box had a retail value around $44. Although there were some misses with this box, I still feel that I got a good value from the products that I will use. BTW, I used my Play! Pass to purchase the full-sized tube of ABH Brow Gel (seriously, try this). Maybe I should suggest that Sephora use a study hall and review my profile?!? ?
