First look!

I like the product info cards that Pearlesque provides, they give a brief snapshot into the featured brand, which for January is Modicum Skin Care.

The back of the introductory card listed each product, its retail value, and how to use each item. I like that Pearlesque also includes their own #pearltip for the products.

The packing is pretty simple, just some wadded up paper and bubble wrap that keeps everything safe.

Everything in my January 2019 Pearlesque Box!

Modicum Skin Care Essential Cleanser ($9.52) “This gentle, light-foaming cleanser leaves your skin feeling soft, smooth and pampered. Not stripped. Foaming is created by using sea kelp as a natural surfactant. Ideal for all skin types, the Essential Cleanser is calming and refreshing with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties.”

I am familiar with Modicum and have received it in subscription boxes before. My only real complaint is that the products smell odd although I appreciate that they don’t have perfumes added.

Just squirt some cleanser to your wet hands and apply to face. Rub around gently for a bit, then rinse. Some of the ingredients are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The product foams slightly and works well, although if you wear a face full of makeup you may need to do a double cleanse. My pump only worked the first time, then I had to unscrew the lid and pour it into my hand. There is a slight grittiness to the cleanser, which provided a bit of exfoliation.

Modicum Skin Care Birch Tree Water Spritz ($22) “Think of this as your essential regenerating Booster, keeping your skin radiant and healthy throughout the day.”

I’m not one to spritz my face, I always end up with the product either in my eyes or mouth, or up my nose. I would use this as a toner instead. I think it smells pleasant and most like rose water. It left my skin soft, like it had a fine cover of moisturizer, although I would make sure to use a moisturizer over top. Hyaluronic acid is a pretty popular ingredient that draws water to the skin, while MSM helps promote the skin’s rejuvenation process.

Modicum Skin Care Essential Serum ($65) “This serum is a plant-based anhydrous formula that is comprised of some of the most medicinal and nutritious plants for the skin.”

Red algae is the superstar addition to this product, although the product description doesn’t mention what it is supposed to do (it’s an antioxidant). The serum may help skin recover from conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Although this says it is a serum, it is more like a moisturizing oil. I didn’t apply any other lotion over top. The scent is strong and although it smells kind of odd it did fade quickly. I used it at night and in the morning and it didn’t mess with my subsequent makeup application.

I think Pearlesque Box is a great subscription for those who want to explore natural skin care! I enjoy learning about the featured brands and it is pretty cool to see how the products are supposed to work together. It also gives me a chance to see if I want to explore other offerings from that brand. Please keep in mind that you will receive a lot of serums and oils for the face with this box; it would be nice to see body care products show up more often. The value always blows me away and this month’s box was worth about $96.52!

PSST: The February box will feature products from Honua Hawaiian Skincare and I cannot wait!!!
