Birchbox is a beauty sample subscription box that sends 5 new items to test out each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of the curated box, so I knew which samples were coming ahead of time. Birchbox tends to send a lot of pricey hair and skin products and I love to discover new items – some of my all-time favorite products were found through Birchbox!

DEAL: For a limited time use coupon code SUNSHINE to get a FREE mini Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine Lipstick (that transforms into a unique-to-you coral shade!) with your first month of a Birchbox subscription!

This is a review of the January 2019 Curated Box, which is now available in the Birchbox Shop! The box is $10 for subscribers ($15 for non-subscribers). I am loving this vision board cover!

It’s a new year, so Birchbox suggests updating your beauty preferences and had a few tips to help you get the most from your Birchbox subscription.

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size. It’s time for a fresh start!

My items were placed on a spongy bed and everything was in perfect condition.

Everything in the January 2019 Birchbox Curated Box!

BLAQ Peel Off Mask ($7.25) is good for those with congested or oily skin, and specifically says not to use on sensitive skin.

Just apply to clean, dry skin, wait about 20 minutes for it to dry, then peel it off. It has a floral scent and has activated charcoal in the ingredients to help deep clean pores.

[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Cream Gel ($8.11) After using the mask, make sure to moisturize your skin. Birchbox made it easy by sending a creamy gel moisturizer in the box!

Use twice a day and supposedly your skin will be protected from dryness for 24 hours! The cream was absorbed quickly by my skin and has a pleasant floral scent.

M·A·C Cosmetics In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara ($5?) I’m not sure how big this mascara is so I had to guess on the value.

Birchbox says this is a lightweight mascara and they are right, I couldn’t even tell it was there! It didn’t clump, but I couldn’t see a dramatic difference in my lashes either.

Design.ME FAB.ME 18-in-1 Leave-in Treatment ($0.53) has 18 different benefits for the hair! Some of the 18 benefits include environmental protection, frizz control, light conditioning, and split end smoothing. I would suggest spraying into palms before distributing through hair. Blow dry and get on with your day!

Arrow Enhance Waterproof Eye Brightener – Bright Now ($10, Full-Size!) is supposed to help you look like you got a good night’s sleep, so you can be bright eyed and bushy tailed.

You may apply to the waterline and also the inner corners of eyes and just below the brows. I thought it ended up looking exactly like what it is – an opaque pink liner. It really didn’t blend very well and disappeared quickly.

Are you ready to face the new year with the items from the curated Birchbox? I thought the assortment of items was nice – skincare, hair care, and makeup. The value for the December curated box is around $30.89, which is really good for a $10 box!

I have a hard time believing that the awful blaq mask was actually used. I am a mask fiend and this was the worst mask EVER!!! I like to hear about how the product actually PERFORMED….not just what it is.

Thanks for commenting Snowhitetwin! You bring up a good point, which is that I can’t always effectively evaluate every product I receive. Subscription boxes often come with a variety of items, some of which are meant for certain skin or hair needs that I don’t have. For instance, I have fine, flat hair so I can’t tell you if a product meant for coarse or frizzy hair works well. I have dry, aging skin so I can’t tell you if a product meant to fight oily skin or acne works well. I can tell you its main ingredients, what it is supposed to do, or how it feels or smells. I also have sensitive skin, and the BLAQ mask specifically said it wasn’t meant for my skin type, so you are correct, I didn’t try it out. I gave up peel off masks long ago, and while I sometimes ask my daughters to try them out, they weren’t able to in time for the review. The Blaq mask currently has a 3 star rating on Birchbox, but only 15 people have reviewed it so that isn’t saying a whole lot. Some people hated it, others raved about it. On Amazon I found that 42 people have rated it and it has 4 stars, with 74% giving it a 5 star rating. I appreciate your input and welcome others to give me their takes on it too! Debbie
