Allure Beauty Box is a monthly beauty subscription service that sends 5 deluxe sized product samples with a value of at least $50 and is curated by the editors of Allure Magazine, who choose and test the products themselves. It’s $15 a month and if you sign up for a year-long subscription you will pay for 10 boxes and get 2 more boxes for free. All new members will receive a mystery gift that will ship separately from the regular box.

DEAL: Sign up for the Allure Beauty Box and receive a free bonus gift – PLUS save $5 off your first month’s box!

The box opens to reveal a mini-magazine.

First look!

It looks like Allure is getting a new look in January! Items will come with a reusable pouch.

I found a scratch-off card that revealed two of my upcoming products, plus it says the January box will have 6 items and a value of $136+! My scratch card doesn’t look so pretty now but I am supposed to receive either Amika Soulfood hair mask (yes please!!!) or a BeautyBlender Micro Mini (meh) plus a Doucce lip crayon and a bonus gift of a NCLA nail polish. Come on January!!!

Allure is a magazine of course and so they produce a mini-magazine with all the featured items in the box.

The magazine lists each product, the MSRP of the full-sized product, and where you can find more. This month’s items were curated with the help of a YouTube blogger I had never heard of, but after watching her videos I can see that we are not on the same makeup train, since I prefer a low-key look and she is full-on face makeup.

The magazine also tells you how you can use the products in the box.

It even listed coupon codes.

My items were packed in the signature glossy red box and were wrapped in white tissue paper.

Everything in my box!

Bliss The Real Peel Brighten Peel-Off Mask ($15) has vitamin C and pumpkin enzymes to help exfoliate and protect skin. It is Pepto Bismol pink and highly fragranced. Directions say to try a patch test before using and to apply to clean, dry skin and wait 20 minutes before peeling off.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelette ($0.40) is a one-time use makeup remover cloth. It can be used on both eye makeup and face makeup. I used it on both my eyes and face and found it would take several cloths to make me feel like my skin was clean. I would use these for travel, but otherwise it is a costly way to clean skin if you need to use several at a time. I would also use these as a first step to removing makeup, knowing I would need to follow with additional cleanser and eye makeup remover.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Cabaret Show ($7) Believe it or not, I always look forward to receiving NYX in a beauty box. I even took my daughter to one of their stores so she could get shade matched for foundation. It’s inexpensive makeup that doesn’t feel cheap, and it always works well.

The shade Cabaret Show is described as dusty rose and the finish is matte and dries quickly. I was afraid the shade would be way too dark for my light complexion but it ended up being a perfect fit for me. I applied it with the applicator but then spread it around with a lip brush to make sure I got it all the way to the edges before it dried. Swatched below.

LA Splash Art-ki-tekt Waterproof Slim Eyeliner ($14) I’m not sure I’ve ever tried this brand before but I am always happy to get black liquid eyeliners because that’s all my daughters wear!

It has a very fine tip, I’ve never been able to get such a thin line before. It was very watery though. I saw a video the other day where the model dropped liquid liner inside her eyes and then blinked and it spread to her water line. I accidentally did that myself with this liner, although after a few blinks it pretty much settled in a goopy pile at the inner corner of my eye. I think overall this didn’t last through the day but maybe it can be built up.

The Nubian by Juvia’s Eyeshadow Palette ($10?) I gave this a value based on the fact that the full-sized product has twice as many shadows.

These are bold shades that are like warm neutrals but with some extra oomph.

Half of them were matte, the other half shimmery. I used two of the colors to do my eyes, and avoided the reddish color. No, I won’t use most of these colors but I rarely find a palette that is filled with colors I can use, and others may appreciate a break from the usual lighter tones.

Here they are swatched on my arm. I thought they had good pigmentation.

Ofra Cosmetics/NIKKIETUTORIALS Everglow Highlighter ($35) Wow, what a lot of shimmer and shine!

There are three colors in this refillable compact and they can be used individually or in a combo of your choosing. The shades are described as “frosty white, neutral shimmer and sunset copper” and I was very happy with the result when I used the two lighter colors together.

You can see the highlighters swatched top to bottom, with the 4th shade a rose gold combo of all three shades. Next we have the NYX lip and the eyeliner below.

What a cool assortment of products from Allure for December! I was happy to receive some new makeup products to create festive looks for the holidays, and the wipe was good for removing some of the layers before bed. The value for the December box was around $81.40, which is amazing for a $15 box!
