Unplugged Book Box is a monthly subscription box that sends a new release young adult or new adult book plus items to help you unplug from your daily life and recharge. Self care goodies AND a book? Yes, please! I think one of my favorite things about this box is that it is curated to the season. There are 3 boxes per season and they are marked “Autumnal Equinox”, “Winter Solstice”, and so on. What can you expect to find in the box?

  • 4-6 bookish self-care or novelty products
  • Exclusive activities to help you unplug and focus on you!
  • Self-care & gratitude tools to help you reflect
  • One new release Young Adult or New Adult (18+ protagonist) book (one box available, varies by month).

The product info card was fixed in place with cute heart stickers, which goes with the theme. I adore little details like that!

The November 2018 theme was Home Is Where The Heart Is.

The back of the card listed the “spoilers”, or items in the box. The items tie in with different fandoms, TV shows, and books, and can be seen in bright colors. For instance, one of the items is inspired by Harry Potter. Most of the items can be found on Etsy.

Another heart sticker!

My items were tucked into tissue paper and shredded paper squiggles.

Even the box gets in on the theme. Lots of details in this subscription.

Everything in the box! I wasn’t expecting to see items that were wrapped like presents!

I found a “mix tape” card that gave directions on how to find the playlist on Spotify. Open the Spotify app and then use the camera feature to scan the bar code. This didn’t work for me but I was able to find the playlist by doing a search on the website.

There was a poem on the back of the card.

The next card (there were several) gave reasons why one should read. I love to read, but for some people it’s not a preferred activity.

The back of the card had a mini-journal.

One card had the theme for the December box listed.

The back of that card had an Instagram scavenger hunt with the chance to win a prize for participating.

Supernatural Bookmark with Tassel ($3) Some of the items I wasn’t sure of so I had to consult my adviser to explain things to me.

My daughter Karina, who is 15, is probably the target audience for this box. She had to tell me what everything meant. This bookmark is based on a TV show that I’ve never heard of. Turns out they are on season 14 so that shows you how much TV I watch.

Next was a card about Mortal Lands. I had no clue what this was but my adviser said it was a book.

The back of that card had a recipe for molten chocolate cakes. Yum!

Perfectly Imperfect Essential Oil Roller ($4) I have read and watched The Hunger Games series and this item is inspired by Haymitch. It is a sponsor gift!

This particular blend was created especially for this box but you may order your own blend on the website.

It comes with some lovely pieces of Amazonite inside!

It is also a convenient rollerball applicator. The scent is very subdued so frequent applications may need to happen. Or apply when you need courage!

I recognize those marks!

Inside was a thank you sticker. I gave the items to my daughter to open and she was happy about that.

Bookish Signs and More Wine Glass ($9?) Ok, my daughter may not drink wine from this but it has a nice sentiment and she can use it for juice or milk.

It’s kind of hard to read in my pictures but one side says “It’s not much…” and the other side says “but it’s Home”. Ron Weasley said this to Harry when Harry first visited The Burrow, the Weasley family homestead.

Another little gift!

Sunshine Cottage Autumn Court Tea ($2.75?) I couldn’t find this particular blend because it was made especially for this box but it was amazing!

This tea was inspired by a book I’ve never heard of but they sure inspire great tea!

The pack was full of tea and should be enough for 4 cups. It has black tea, rosehips, orange pieces, cinnamon, and natural flavors. It almost smells like vanilla and when I added a bit of sugar and milk it was like drinking a decadent dessert. I used 1 1/2 teaspoons of tea though, and it was perfect.

Hmm, what’s in here?

Kind Life Essentials Lara Jean’s Cowgirl Cookies Fall Spice Lip Scrub ($3?) is based on the Netflix movie that is based on a book. The main character likes to bake. A lot.

The ingredients sound like something you might find in a kitchen (except maybe for jojoba oil).

Just rub on damp lips and then rinse. It smells so good, like spiced sugar.

One more present. It’s the book for this month!

Come November by Katrin Van Dam (List price $18.99, now $12.91) is considered teen literature (it was printed by Scholastic) and touches on subjects like mental illness and cults. It came out on 10/30/2018 so it is very new and it is intended for ages 12+. My daughter asked me to hurry up and finish my review so she could get started reading the book!

It’s not the end of the world, but for Rooney Harris it’s starting to feel that way. It’s the beginning of senior year, and her mom just lost her job. Even worse, she isn’t planning to get another one. Instead, she’s spending every waking moment with a group called the Next World Society, whose members are convinced they’ll be leaving Earth behind on November 17. It sounds crazy to Rooney, but to her mother and younger brother it sounds like salvation. As her mom’s obsession threatens to tear their lives apart, Rooney is scrambling to hold it all together. But will saving her family mean sacrificing her dreams — or theirs?

I found a letter that had a signed sticker from the author, which can be placed in the book if you like.

Finally, there was an envelope inside the book itself, to be read after finishing the book. If you haven’t read the book yet then SPOILER ALERT: skip the next picture!!!

I thought my first Unplugged Book Box was a hit! Of course, my teenager was really the winner here, she is looking forward to reading the book and the playlist was something we could both listen to (we stream Spotify on the way to school and church activities). The goblet of glass is perfect for a serving of juice or Butterbeer. The lip scrub smells delish and inspired me to add a new show to my Netflix queue and I even found the books while browsing the aisles of Target. Karina can use the oil and I’m keeping the tea. My products had a value of around $34.66, or just under the subscription price, but this box was really a winner with the curation and special touches.

I think the essential oil was ten dollars when I tried to purchase on my own. Great pics!

Hi Jenny! I think by the time you add shipping and all of your personal preferences the price does go up, maybe I should have stated “prices start at…”. Thanks for the heads up and I hope you enjoyed the review!
