Birchbox is a beauty sample subscription box that sends 5 new items to test out each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a monthly box with sample choice.

I filled out a profile when I joined so I could let Birchbox know which types of items I would like to receive, plus I selected my skin type, hair type, and other info so they could send products that work for me.

This fall Birchbox wants us to get connected.

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size. Keep in mind that Birchbox sends a variety of product combos each month and your box may vary from mine.

My items were packed simply in the box, and what a cute box it is! I reuse my boxes by setting them out on my dresser to corral beauty items, plus they stack nicely in my closet for the overflow items.

Everything in the box!

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product ($9.26) My biggest complaint about Birchbox is that they sometimes get it wrong when it comes to my hair. I have fine hair so a leave-in conditioner is a no-no, but luckily my daughters can use it. This one looks like a limited edition since it says Miss America on it! Just spray it on towel-dried hair and comb through before styling.

LXMI Creme DU Nil ($11.12) I used to own a full-size of this cream thanks to a different subscription box and used it up until it was all gone. It’s especially nice for the cooler weather since it is very moisturizing, yet it’s not as greasy as some other shea butter-based creams.

Massage on the face in the morning and evening after cleansing. The scent is very light and my skin absorbed the product quickly. It’s a winner!

Marcelle Extension Plus Curl Mascara ($5?) I never buy mascara anymore since it shows up frequently in subscription boxes.

I liked the shorter bristles since my lashes are short and this helps get to the base of my lashes. I thought it did a good job and will use it for the next month!

Juliette Has A Gun Sunny Side Up ($100 Full-Size 50mL, maybe $3 for sample?) I love to try new fragrances and so I am happy to receive them in subscription boxes, especially ones I can’t find in-store at Sephora.

Fragrantica calls this scent a “floral woody musk” and I have to agree. I was expecting citrus but it’s like a bright sunny day in late fall. Scent notes include Amyris, orris root, and ambrette, and I would be lying if I said I knew what any of those things smell like. It also mentions vanilla, jasmine, and sandalwood, plus coconut, and I don’t think any of those notes stand out. It’s warm, woody, floral, and powdery and it doesn’t last very long but it’s not offensive either.

LOC Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Aurora ($10) I picked this item as my Sample Choice since I’ve been impressed with LOC items in the past.

I received the shade Aurora, which is described as “Lilac Purple”. I applied it to my entire lid and then kind of regretted it, since it was very pinky purple! I was afraid people would think it looked weird on me but it sets quickly and then stays all day long so I had to own it.

The second time I used it I used a lighter hand and was much happier with the color. It did flake off a bit when I applied my eyeliner over top of it near the lash line, but other than that it didn’t budge.

I was really happy with both the products and value in my November Birchbox! Perfume (especially in spray form!) makes me happy and the shadow stuck like glue til I removed it at night. The mascara is generously sized and the moisturizer is one of my favorites. The only downside was the leave-in conditioner but it is a large sample and I can pass it along. The value for my $10 beauty box was around $38.38!
