Birchbox is a beauty sample subscription box that sends 5 new items to test out each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of the curated box, so I knew which samples were coming ahead of time. Birchbox tends to send a lot of pricey hair and skin products and I love to discover new items – some of my all-time favorite products were found through Birchbox!

This is a review of the December 2018 Curated Box, which is now available in the Birchbox Shop! The box is $10 for subscribers ($15 for non-subscribers).

DEAL:  For a limited time use coupon code BANG to get a FREE deluxe sample of Benefit BADGal BANG Mascara with your first month of a Birchbox subscription!

I received a card with a quote to ponder as this year ends and another one begins.

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

My items were placed on a spongy bed and everything was in perfect condition.

Everything in the December 2018 Birchbox Curated Box!

Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing Patches with Soothing Cornflower ($3.43) Ahh, what a nice way to start a weekend morning, with a cup of tea and some relaxing eye under eye patches! I have never noticed any difference in my under eye area after using patches but it does help me take time out to just sit and enjoy the silence before the day starts.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum  ($14.45) Yep, you read that right. This sample is worth almost $15! It’s supposed to help boost skin’s appearance and brighten it up with vitamin C and glycolic acid. It smells like oranges thanks to sweet orange oil.

The Beachwaver Co. Great Barrier Heat Protectant Hairspray ($4.72) is a heat protectant spray and not a finishing spray. The scent is “Polynesian Pink Sugar” and smells lovely. I’ve been wanting to try a new technique for volumizing my hair and will give this a try with a straight iron. At the very least I know my hair will smell fabulous!

M·A·C Cosmetics Strobe Cream in Pinklite  ($4) can be used as a primer to help skin look brighter or as a highlighter. I used it as highlighter and was happy to see that it left behind just a nice glow and not huge glittery pieces. A little goes a long way!

Stila Cosmetics HUGE™ Extreme Lash Mascara  ($10.45) I was so happy to see this Stila mascara sample but wasn’t as impressed with the results as I thought I would be.

It is supposed to lengthen, curl, and volumize lashes but it didn’t really do all that. I also thought it was very clumpy and that’s too bad because the sample size is so large, but I’m not loving it.

Overall I enjoyed the December 2018 Curated Birchbox! There’s almost always some hits and misses since every product won’t appeal to everyone. I’m always happy to receive eye patches and the highlighter worked well. Plus, I can’t wait to try out some YouTube techniques on my hair using the thermal spray. The Sunday Riley product was worth more than the price paid for the box, and the only downer was the clumpy mascara. My box had a value of around $37.05!
