Play! by Sephora recently released a limited edition box for $20! It’s called Sephora PLAY! SMARTS Superfoods: Inner & Outer Beauty Box and it promises 7 trial-size beauty and makeup products that feature “naturally derived superfood ingredients”. Purchasers will also get access to an exclusive live-streamed beauty crash course, plus a limited-edition beauty bag, informational SMART cards for each product, and a SMART pass good for 50 bonus Beauty Insider points with in-store purchase.
The Sephora PLAY! SMARTS Superfoods: Inner & Outer Beauty Box is still available! NOTE: This is a one-time purchase and a not a beauty subscription; for info on PLAY! by Sephora Monthly Beauty Box, click here.
We were welcomed by the box’s set of directions on how to enjoy it and a pack of Play! cards.
Even the inner lid has info!
After I removed the card, there’s the Sephora pouch with the items in it. There are no added pads for shipping or squiggles.
The crash course will be available on Sephora’s Youtube channel.
In case you miss out on the live broadcast, you will still be able to access the replay anytime. I wasn’t wowed by this – I would expect this content to be purchaser-only.
This card is a PLAY! Pass that will get you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box, in-store only.
The pouch is a little more natural than previous bags. I think it’s made out of canvas.
The Sephora tag is clearly visible and the edge has decorative blue dots all around.
All of the products were inside the bag. The bag has two hidden magnets that help it stay closed. I think it’s going to lay flat, it won’t stand up without help. It almost looks like a lunch bag but it’s a bit too small for that use.
Everything in my Limited Edition box!
Each product comes with its own card with the “when, how, what” info.
The back of each card has info on the superfood that is in each product, plus a place for keeping notes while watching the CRASH COURSE.
HUM Nutrition Glow Sweet Glow ($2.50) I’ve heard of using hyaluronic acid on the outside of skin, but I didn’t know you could EAT it to make skin moist from the inside out!!!
I am currently suffering from a cold so I was very happy to see that this supplement has my daily requirement of vitamin C. The gummies are vegan and tangerine flavored. No weird aftertaste, just yummy.
You can eat two a day, either at the same time or not. Keep away from young children because they look and taste like candy.
Rahua Voluminous Shampoo ($2.72) and Rahua Voluminous Conditioner ($2.88) I’ve tried a shampoo from this company before but it smelled bad. I must have gotten a bad batch before because this duo smelled great!
I have flat hair so I was excited to see that this was meant to add volume to limp locks. I thought the shampoo did a decent job of lathering my hair to remove the previous day’s gun., not an easy thing for a shampoo to do when it doesn’t have SLS. It had a light herbal scent, maybe a touch of anise?
The conditioner also had an herbal touch. It has rosemary and lemongrass extracts but smells almost like eucalyptus. Each scent faded before the shower was over and my hair felt soft but not weighed down.
Go-To Very Useful Face Cream ($6.20) is the first of two moisturizers sent in this box. It can be used on all skin types but if you have dry skin then you may want to supplement with a face oil. By the end of the testing week my skin was flaky but if you have oily skin it probably will work well.
Apricot kernel and sweet almond oils are a couple of the superfood ingredients found in this lightly floral fragranced cream.
Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Crème ($7.06) is also for all skin types but again, it may not be emollient enough for dry skin.
Sephora says this cream may help reduce redness and it is possible that my skin looked a little less rosy by the end of the week. Rose water, white tea, and kukui oil are some of the moisturizing superfoods in here and it had a very light rose scent.
Youth To The People Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser ($2.28) I’ve tried this cleanser before and was so happy to receive it again! It is meant for all skin types and creates lots of suds to clean off all traces of makeup and debris from skin. I used a cleansing oil first to get the bulk of my makeup off but then this product removed the rest of the gunk.
Kale and spinach are the superfoods here and I am so happy to know that it has no added fragrance. That doesn’t mean it’s unscented – it has a light, fresh, green and clean scent.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in Éclair (No size given but it is $24 for the full-size)
The shade is called Éclaire and is described as “Soft Rose”. I like the feel of it on my lips, the monoi oil and coconut butter help it glide on while resveratrol provides antioxidants.
Here it is swatched on my arm. Unfortunately, it had that kind of opaque tone on my lips and was lighter than my natural lip color so it looked kind of funny. I will probably pair it with a darker lip liner to create a color that works for me.
I received 3 samples with my order. I’m a fan of fragrance, can you tell???
I am always happy to try a box of beauty goodies from Sephora and this PLAY! SMARTS box was no exception! I prefer natural beauty products and was happy to see that perfume and dyes were not in the skin care items. I was especially happy with the cleanser and gummy vitamins. The lotions will work better for me if I pair with an oil, however, since this is a box for all ages I also appreciate that the items are good for those with oily skin. I was also happy to receive a volumizing hair duo since so many of the general beauty boxes tend to include conditioners and oils that weigh my hair down. As for the value, I didn’t calculate an MSRP for the lip product, bag, or perfume samples, but the rest of the items are worth around $23.64.
What did you think of the Sephora PLAY! SMARTS Superfoods: Inner & Outer Beauty Box!? While supplies last this box is still available for purchase!
